1-(4-Meth-oxy-phen-yl)-4-(3-nitro-phen-yl)-3-phen-oxy-azetidin-2-one.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(22)H(18)N(2)O(5), the four-membered β-lactam ring is nearly planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.023 (2) Å for the N atom, and has long C-C distances of 1.525 (5) and 1.571 (5) Å. The mean plane of this group makes dihedral angles of 11.61 (19), 74.5 (2) and 72.3 (2)° with three aromatic rings. An intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs. The packing of the mol-ecules in the crystal structure is governed mainly by inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding and C-H⋯π stacking inter-actions. Furthermore, a π-π inter-action [centroid-centroid distance = 3.6129 (19) Å] helps to stabilize the crystal structure.

The dihedral angle between the β-lactam ring and the O-bonded phenyl ring is 51.95 (12)°. An intra-molecular C-H⋯O inter-action generates an S(6) ring. Crystal structure of 3-(4-chloro-phen-oxy)-4-(2-nitro-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one with an unknown solvate.

Project description:In the title compound, C15H11ClN2O4, the central β-lactam ring is approximately planar [maximum deviation = 0.044 (2) Å for the N atom from the mean plane] and subtends dihedral angles of 61.17 (11) and 40.21 (12) °, respectively, with the nitro and chloro-benzene rings. Both substituents lie to the same side of the β-lactam core. In the crystal, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into C(4) chains propagating in [010]. The chains are cross-linked by C-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯π inter-actions, generating a three-dimensional network. The solvent mol-ecules were found to be highly disordered and their contribution to the scattering was removed with the SQUEEZE procedure in PLATON [Spek (2009 ▶). Acta Cryst. D65, 148-155], which indicated a solvent cavity of volume 318 Å(3) containing approximately 114 electrons. These solvent mol-ecules are not considered in the given chemical formula and other crystal data.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(14)H(12)N(2)O(4), contains four crystallographically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. All the mol-ecules have similar conformations; the dihedral angles between the aromatic rings are 33.1 (1), 33.76 (9), 31.41 (9) and 32.56 (10)°. Intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds form S(6) ring motifs in each molecule. In the crystal, there are two pairs of pseudo-inversion-related mol-ecules. Project description:A series of related substituted 1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-ones have been characterized: 3-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one, C25H24FNO5 (1), 3-(furan-2-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one, C23H23NO6 (2), 4-(4-meth-oxyphen-yl)-3-(naphthalen-1-yl)-1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one, C29H27NO5 (3), 3-(3,4-di-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one, C27H29NO7 (4) and 4,4-bis-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-3-phenyl-1-(3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phen-yl)azetidin-2-one, C32H31NO6 (5). All of the compounds are racemic. The lactam and 3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phenyl rings are approximately co-planar and the orientation of the lactam and the 4-meth-oxy-phenyl substituent is approximately orthogonal. The chiral centres, although eclipsed by geometry, have torsion angles ranging from -7.27 to 13.08° for the 3 position, and -8.69 to 13.76° for the 4 position of the β-lactam. The structures display intra-molecular C-H⋯O bonding between the 3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-phenyl ring and the lactam ketone. Further C-H⋯O inter-actions are observed and form either an opposing meth-oxy 'buckle' to join two mol-ecules together or a cyclic dimer.
