ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of the title compound, C(25)H(18)ClNO, shows that the mol-ecules are isolated and not involved in inter-molecular C-H⋯O or C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. However, the phenyl and quinoline rings are involved in π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8829 (9) Å].

Project description:Two independent mol-ecules comprise the asymmetric unit of the title chalcone, C(25)H(17)Cl(2)NO, and while each has an E configuration about the ethyl-ene double bond, they differ in the relative orientations of the carbonyl and ethyl-ene double bonds within the prop-2-en-1-one residues, i.e. anti and syn. For each mol-ecule, the benzene [dihedral angles = 71.04 (9) and 73.34 (12)°] and prop-2-en-1-one [C-C-C-O = 91.2 (2) and -119.1 (3)°] substituents are twisted out of the plane of the quinoline moiety to which they are attached. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯π and π-π [Cg(quinoline)⋯Cg(quinoline) = 3.7809 (12) and 3.8446 (11) Å] inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, C(26)H(20)ClNO(2), the quinoline ring system is approximately planar with a maximum deviation of 0.028 (2) Å and forms a dihedral angle of 73.84 (5)° with the phenyl ring. Two neighbouring mol-ecules are arranged into a centrosymmetric dimer through a pair of inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. A pair of inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link two methoxy-phenyl groups into another centrosymmetric dimer, generating an R(2) (2)(8) ring motif. The structure is further stabilized by C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:In the title ethanol solvate, C29H20Cl2N2O·C2H5OH, the quinolinyl residues form a dihedral angle of 46.41 (4)° with each other, and each is inclined [Cp-C-C=O and C=C-C-Cp (p = pyridyl) torsion angles = 54.8 (2) and 144.44 (19)°, respectively] with respect to the almost planar bridging prop-2-en-1-one residue [O=C-C=C torsion angle = -4.1 (3)°]. The ethanol solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two positions of equal occupancy and is located close to a centre of inversion. These mol-ecules reside in cavities defined by the organic mol-ecules, which are connected into a three-dimensional architecture by C-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions, as well as π-π contacts [inter-centroid distances = 3.5853 (10) and 3.8268 (11) Å], each involving pyridyl rings.

Project description:The title hydrate, C(26)H(21)NO·H(2)O, exhibits significant twists of the benzene ring [dihedral angle = 87.24 (6)°] and chalcone residue [C-C-C-C torsion angle = -94.46 (17)°] out of the plane through the quinoline ring system. The conformation about the C=C bond [1.341 (2) Å] is E. The solvent water mol-ecule forms hydrogen bonds to carbonyl O and quinoline N atoms derived from two mol-ecules and through the application of a centre of inversion, a 16-membered {⋯HOH⋯OC(3)N}(2) synthon is formed to stabilize the resulting tetra-meric (two organic mol-ecules plus two water mol-ecules) aggregate. These are connected into a two-dimensional array via two C-H⋯O contacts, also involving the water mol-ecule. The layers stack along the c axis, being linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions.
