Diaqua-tetra-kis-(1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane-κN)-manganese(II) bis-(perchlorate) ses-qui-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Mn(C(13)H(14)N(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2)·1.5H(2)O, the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms from four different 1,3-di-4-pyridyl-propane mol-ecules and two O atoms from two coordinated water mol-ecules, leading to a distorted MnN(4)O(2) octa-hedral geometry. Each 1,3-di-4-pyridyl-propane ligand displays a monodentate coordinating mode. In the crystal, there exist O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The perchlorate anions and the coordinated and lattice water mol-ecules play an important role in the formation of these hydrogen bonds. One of the two lattice water molecules shows half-occupancy.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, the complex cations assemble into positively charged sheets parallel to (010) via inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions with a mean interplanar distance of 3.410 (6) along [100] and 3.465 (5) Å along [001]. The sulfate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected between these layers by hydrogen bonds, forming negatively charged layers which are linked to the positive layers through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional architecture. Both the positive and negative sheets are stacked along [010] in an ⋯ABAB⋯ sequence, the A layers being shifted by 1/2a along [100] with respect to the B layers. One of the uncoordinated water molecules is equally disordered over two positions.

In the crystal structure, the complex mol-ecules, anions and solvent water mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, each benzene-dicarboxyl-ate anion bridges adjacent Mn(II) cations through the terminal carboxyl-ate groups, forming a polymeric complex chain along the a axis. One Mn-O(carboxyl-ate) bond is much longer than the others. In the crystal, π-π stacking is observed between nearly parallel [dihedral angle = 4.32 (6)°] benzimidazole aromatic ring systems of adjacent mol-ecules, the centroid-centroid distance between the imidazole and benzene rings being 3.5421 (11) Å. Extensive inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure. The two lattice water mol-ecules are located on twofold rotation axes.
