Dioxane dibromide mediated bromination of substituted coumarins under solvent-free conditions.

ABSTRACT: An efficient solvent-free protocol for regioselective bromination of substituted coumarins has been developed by using dioxane dibromide as the solid brominating agent. The efficacy of the solvent-free protocol has been established. The effects of the electronic nature and location of the substituents on the outcome of the reaction have been rationalized with a proposed mechanism.

MIL-101(Cr), an Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst for One Pot Synthesis of 2,4,5-tri Substituted Imidazoles under Solvent Free Conditions.

Project description:A chromium-containing metal-organic framework (MOF), MIL-101 (Chromium(III) benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate), was used to catalyze the one pot, three component synthesis of some 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazoles under solvent-free conditions. The advantages of using this heterogeneous catalyst include short reaction time, high yields, easy and quick isolation of catalyst and products, low amount of catalyst needed, and that the addition of solvent, salt, and additives are not needed. This catalyst is highly efficient and can be recovered at least 5 times with a slight loss of efficiency. The structure of the metal-organic frameworks (MOF) was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (HNMR) were performed to confirm some of the synthesized products. Experimental data indicated that the optimum amount of catalyst was 5 mg for benzil (1 mmol), 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (1 mmol), and ammonium acetate (2.5 mmol), and the synthetic route to the various imidazoles is performed in 10 min by 95% yield, an acceptable result rivalling those of other catalysts.

Silica sulfuric acid: a reusable solid catalyst for one pot synthesis of densely substituted pyrrole-fused isocoumarins under solvent-free conditions.

Project description:A convenient and efficient methodology for the synthesis of densely substituted pyrrole-fused isocoumarins, which employs solid-supported silica sulfuric acid (SSA) as catalyst, has been developed. When the mixture of ninhydrin adducts of acetylacetone/ethyl acetoacetate and primary amines was heated on the solid surface of SSA under solvent-free conditions, the pyrrole-fused isocoumarins were formed in good yields. This synthetic method has several advantages such as the employment of solvent-free reaction conditions without the use of any toxic reagents and metal catalysts, the ease of product isolation, the use of a recyclable catalyst, the low cost, the easy availability of the starting materials, and the excellent yields of products.

Solvent-free synthesis of enantioenriched β-silyl nitroalkanes under organocatalytic conditions.

Project description:An enantioselective 1,4-conjugate addition of nitromethane to β-silyl α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds catalyzed by bifunctional squaramide catalysts has been developed. This methodology offers both enantiomers of β-silyl nitroalkanes in good to excellent yields (up to 92%) and enantioselectivities (up to 97.5% ee) under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. Control experiments reveal that the presence of a β-silyl group in the enones is crucial for high reactivity under the optimized reaction conditions.

Pd-Catalyzed Synthesis of Piperazine Scaffolds Under Aerobic and Solvent-Free Conditions.

Asymmetric Michael Addition Organocatalyzed by α,β-Dipeptides under Solvent-Free Reaction Conditions.

Project description:The application of six novel α,β-dipeptides as chiral organocatalysts in the asymmetric Michael addition reaction between enolizable aldehydes and N-arylmaleimides or nitroolefins is described. With N-arylmaleimides as substrates, the best results were achieved with dipeptide 2 as a catalyst in the presence of aq. NaOH. Whereas dipeptides 4 and 6 in conjunction with 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and thiourea as a hydrogen bond donor proved to be highly efficient organocatalytic systems in the enantioselective reaction between isobutyraldehyde and various nitroolefins.

Oxidized Carbon Black as an Activator of Transesterification Reactions under Solvent-Free Conditions.

Project description:A metal-free procedure for oxidation of carbon black (CB), under mild and ecofriendly conditions, is described. The procedure, based on 5/1 w/w H2O2/H2SO4, when applied to high-surface-area CB, leads to oxidation contents (O/C = 0.66) comparable to those obtained for graphite with the more aggressive and metal-based Hummers method (O/C 0.63). Oxidized nanocarbons are able to activate transesterification reactions under solvent-free conditions. Activation of transesterification reactions is much more effective by oxidized CB than by graphene oxide.

Hydrogen peroxide-mediated synthesis of 2,4-substituted quinazolines via one-pot three-component reactions under metal-free conditions.

Project description:An efficient metal-free synthesis of 2,4-substituted quinazolines via a hydrogen peroxide-mediated one-pot three-component reaction of 2-aminoaryl ketones, aldehydes, and ammonium acetate has been developed. The transformation proceeded readily under mild conditions in the presence of commercially available hydrogen peroxide. The significant advantages of this approach are (1) the readily available atom-efficient and green hydrogen peroxide as oxidant; (2) no transition metal catalyst is required; (3) mild reaction conditions; and (4) wide substrate scope. To the best of our knowledge, utilizing hydrogen peroxide as an atom-efficient and green oxidant for the synthesis of 2,4-substituted quinazolines has not previously been reported in the literature. This method is complementary to previous protocols for the synthesis of 2,4-substituted quinazolines.

Order versus disorder in two isomorphous pyrazolone-substituted diethyl propane-dioates prepared using a three-component one-pot reaction under solvent-free conditions.

Project description:Two new substituted propane-dioate esters have been synthesized using a three-component solvent-free thermal reaction between diethyl propane-dioate (diethyl malonate), 5-chloro-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde and an aryl azide, forming two new C-C bonds in a single step. The products diethyl (RS)-2-[(4-bromo-phen-yl)(5-methyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-di-hydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)meth-yl]propane-dioate, C24H25BrN2O5 (I), and diethyl (RS)-2-[(4-chloro-phen-yl)(5-methyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-di-hydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)meth-yl]propane-dioate, C24H25ClN2O5 (II), are isomorphous, with Z' = 2 in space group P21/n. The two independent mol-ecules in compound (I) are both fully ordered, while each of the independent mol-ecules in compound (II) is disordered, but in different ways. In one mol-ecule of (II), the N-phenyl ring is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.635 (10) and 0.365 (10), and in the other mol-ecule the ester function is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.690 (5) and 0.310 (5). In both structures, the two independent mol-ecules adopt different conformations and, in each structure, the mol-ecules are linked into complex sheets by a combination of N-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with some related structures.

Silylative aromatization of p-quinone methides under metal and solvent free conditions.

Project description:A base-mediated silylation reaction leading to benzyl silanes has been developed. Under transition-metal and solvent free conditions, the silylation of a wide array of p-quinone methides is achieved using a Cs2CO3 catalyst in yields up to 96%. Carboxylation of the as-obtained organosilane with gaseous CO2 provides a new synthetic protocol for the preparation of carboxylic acid.

Efficacy of Selenourea Organocatalysts in Asymmetric Michael Reactions under Standard and Solvent-Free Conditions.

Project description:By varying the steric and electronic surroundings of the hydrogen-bonding motif, the novel chiral Cinchona-alkaloid based selenoureas were developed. Acting as bifunctional catalysts, they were applied in the Michael reactions of dithiomalonate and nitrostyrene providing chiral adducts with up to 96% ee. The asymmetric Michael--hemiacetalization reaction of benzylidene pyruvate and dimedone, performed with the assistance of 5 mol% of selenoureas, furnished the product with up to 93% ee and excellent yields. The effectiveness of the new hydrogen-bond donors was also proved in solvent-free reactions under ball mill conditions, supporting the sustainability of the devised catalytic protocol.
