ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(21)H(24)N(2)O(2), is a phenyl hydrazine derivative of the well known anthelminthic agent α-santonin, which is composed of three fused rings (benzodieneone, cyclo-hexane and γ-lactone). The cyclo-hexa-dienone ring adopts a boat conformation, the cyclo-hexane ring is in a chair conformation and the trans-fused γ-lactone ring adopts a C-envelope conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the a axis.

An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is observed.

The mol-ecule contains three rings, viz. two fused six-membered rings in chair conformations and a five-membered ring in a flattened envelope conformation. In the crystal, two hy-droxy groups are involved in the formation of intra- and inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The H atoms in these groups are split, with site-occupation factors of 0.5. The seven-membered ring of the title compound shows a chair conformation, while the five-membered rings exibit different conformations, viz a twisted one for the lactone ring and an envelope conformation for the other five-membered ring with the C atom closest to the hydroxy group forming the flap. In the crystal, O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect mol-ecules into dimers that are inter-connected by C-H⋯O inter-actions, producing supramolecular chains along the b axis.
