ABSTRACT: The title compound, C28H24O5, consists of a fused tricyclic system containing two five-membered rings and one six-membered ring. The five-membered rings both exhibit an envelope conformation with the O atom at the flap, whereas the six-membered ring adopts a boat conformation. The dihedral angle between the 4-methyl-phenyl rings at the 1,8-positions is 76.4 (1)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are stacked in columns along the a axis through C-H⋯O inter-actions.

The mol-ecule consists of a fused tricyclic system containing two five-membered rings and one six-membered ring. The five-membered rings both show an envelope conformation with the O atom at the flap, whereas the six-membered ring adopts a boat conformation. The thio-phene ring is disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.53 (1):0.47 (1). The dihedral angles between the 4-methyl-phenyl ring and the major and minor components of the thio-phene ring are 66.3 (1) and 67.9 (1)°, respectively, while the dihedral angle between the disordered thio-phenyl components is 3.1 (1)°. The mean plane of the tricyclic ring system makes dihedral angles of 35.8 (1), 30.8 (1) and 32.8 (1)°, respectively, with the 4-methyl-phenyl ring and the major and minor components of the thio-phenyl ring. In the crystal, inversion dimers are formed through pairs of C-H⋯π inter-actions. In addition, C-H⋯O inter-actions are observed.

Project description:In the title co-crystal, C(22)H(16)O(10)·C(22)H(18)O(8), the independent tetra-methyl 9,10-dihydro-9,10-dioxoanthracene-2,3,6,7-tetra-carboxyl-ate, (I), and tetra-methyl anthracene-2,3,6,7-tetra-carboxyl-ate, (II), components occupy separate crystallographic inversion centers. In (II), the dihedral angles between the mean aromatic plane and the two independent carboxyl-ate planes are 41.32 (10) and -38.35 (10)°. The methyl-carboxyl-ate groups of (I) are disordered, with each resolvable into two groups. In the least disordered carboxyl-ate, the apparent angles between the mean aromatic plane and the two partial carboxyl-ate planes [site occupations = 0.510 (3) and 0.490 (3)] are 16.8 (3) and 23.3 (3)°. In the highly disordered group, the apparent angles between the mean aromatic plane and the two partial carboxyl-ate planes [site occupations = 0.510 (3) and 0.490 (3)] are 78.3 (3) and -74.1 (3)°. In addition, this extreme disorder leads to an artificially elongated C(aromatic)-C(carbox-yl) bond.

The mol-ecule comprises a penta-cyclic system containing the aza-14-crown-4-ether macrocycle, tetra-hydro-pyrimidine, tetra-hydro-pyridine and two benzene rings. The aza-14-crown-4-ether ring adopts a bowl conformation with a dihedral angle of 62.37 (5)° between the benzene rings. The tetra-hydro-pyrimidine ring has an envelope conformation with the chiral C atom as the flap, whereas the tetra-hydro-pyridine ring adopts a distorted chair conformation. [6]Cyclo-2,7-naphthyl-ene: a redetermination.

Project description:Single crystals of a macrocyclic hydro-carbon, [6]cyclo-2,7-naphthyl-ene ([6]CNAP, C(60)H(36)) were prepared from anthracene melt with a prolonged time for the recrystallization. The crystal of improved quality led to the correction of the space-group assignment to Cmca from [Formula: see text] in the original determination [Nakanishi et al. (2011 ▶) Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.50, 5323-5326] and the refinement of anisotropic displacement parameters of all C atoms. The refined mol-ecular structure with C(2h) point symmetry indicated that the strain on the naphthyl rings of [6]CNAP is smallest among the congeners. Despite the large macrocyclic structure, mol-ecules are packed in a ubiquitous herringbone motif. A short C-C distance of 3.119 (4) Å was found in the stacking direction, and a short C-H distance of 2.80 Å was found in the inter-columnar contact.
