A new species of Stenoloba Staudinger, 1892 from China (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Bryophilinae).

ABSTRACT: A new species of Stenoloba from the olivacea species group, Stenoloba solaris, sp. n. (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae), is described from Yunnan, China. Illustrations of the male holotype and its genitalia are provided. A diagnostic comparison is made with Stenoloba albistriata Kononenko & Ronkay, 2000, Stenoloba olivacea (Wileman, 1914), and Stenoloba benedeki Ronkay, 2001 (Fig. 4).

The first complete mitochondrial genome of the agricultural pest Micromelalopha sieversi (Staudinger, 1892) (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae).

Project description:Micromelalopha sieversi (Staudinger, 1892) is a significant pest of Poplar trees in China. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing to sequence the whole mitochondrial genome of M. sieversi. The length of the genome was 15,373 base pairs. The nucleotide composition was 39.8%, 11.5%, 8.0%, and 40.7% for A, C, G, and T, respectively. We used the maximum-likelihood method to construct a molecular phylogenetic tree based on complete mitogenome sequences of 19 Noctuoidea species as ingroups and five Geometroidea species as outgroups. The results indicate that the genus Micromelalopha is closely related to the genus Clostera in family Notodontidae.

Project description:Five new species of the genus Hermonassa Walker, 1865 (H.nigricanssp. nov., H.conusasp. nov., H.brunneocuprinasp. nov., H.albimaculasp. nov., and H.linzhiensis, sp. nov. are described from Autonomic Region Xizang, China (Tibet). Hermonassanigricanssp. nov. is distributed in Nepal and China, and the Himalayan species H.kalamantra Kovács, G. Ronkay & L. Ronkay, 2018 is reсorded for China for the first time. The occurrences of H.anthracina Boursin, 1967 in Nepal is questionable taking in the account the presence of two externally hardly distinguishable species, H.kalamantra and H.nigricanssp. nov. New collecting data for H.yixincheni Han & Li, 2007 and H.oleographa Hampson, 1911 in China are presented. Five species groups are reviewed, and three species groups are designated.

Project description:Chaetaglaea tremula (Harvey) occurs through the Gulf States, from southern Florida, west to eastern Texas. Coastal populations, previously referred to Chaetaglaea tremula occurring from the Carolinas, at least as far north as Massachusetts and shoreline dunes in southwestern Ontario are recognized as distinct and described here as Chaetaglaea rhonda. Adults and genitalia are illustrated for Chaetaglaea rhonda and Chaetaglaea tremula.

Detailed descriptions of the external morphology and male and female genitalia of the new species are provided, along with those of S.obraztsovi Daniel, 1951, which is also assigned to the new subgenus. A checklist of all species of Stigmatophora is presented including the distribution, type locality, and synonymy of each.
