ABSTRACT: Campylobacter jejuni is a major cause of human food-borne illness, with contaminated poultry products serving as a main source of human infection. C. jejuni strain MTVDSCj20 was isolated from the cecal contents of a farm-raised chicken that was naturally colonized with Campylobacter. We present here the complete annotated genome sequence of MTVDSCj20.

Project description:The complete genome sequence of Campylobacter jejuni YH003, isolated from retail chicken, was determined using PacBio and Illumina technologies. The assembled genome is 1,743,985 bp (G+C content of 30.3%). Genome annotation revealed several genes encoding virulence and antibiotic resistance factors, including a type VI secretion system, cytolethal distending toxins, and a multidrug efflux system.

Project description:Campylobacter jejuni is one of the leading causes of bacterial gastroenteritis in the world; however, there is only one complete genome sequence of a poultry strain to date. Here we report the complete genome sequence and annotation of the second poultry strain, C. jejuni strain S3. This strain has been shown to be nonmotile, to be a poor invader in vitro, and to be a poor colonizer of poultry after minimal in vitro passage.

Campylobacter jejuni ZP3204 and TS1218 harbored large tetracycline resistance plasmids with type IV secretion systems.
