Two new species of the genus Diostracus Loew from Tibet, with a key to the Himalayan fauna (Diptera, Dolichopodidae).

ABSTRACT: Previously only one species of the genus Diostracus was known to occur in Tibet. Here the following two new species are added to the fauna of Tibet: Diostracusacutatus sp. n. and Diostracustibetensis sp. n. Their relationships with similar species are discussed. A key to the species of Diostracus from the Himalayas is presented.

A revision of the Nearctic species of Liancalus Loew (Diptera, Dolichopodidae).

Project description:The genus Liancalus Loew is revised for the Nearctic Region. Seven species are documented from this region including two new species: Liancalusgenualis Loew, Liancalushydrophilus Aldrich, Liancaluslimbatus Van Duzee, Liancaluspterodactyl sp. n., Liancalusquerulus Osten Sacken, Liancalussimilis Aldrich, and Liancalussonorus sp. n. Lectotypes are designated for the following species: Liancalusgenualis, Liancalushydrophilus, Liancalusquerulus, and Liancalussimilis. The species are illustrated, a key to males and females is provided, and their distributions mapped. Adults of Liancalus are some of the largest species of Dolichopodidae and commonly occur on waterfalls and vertical seeps.

Project description:BackgroundEuxiphocerus Parent, 1935 is a small genus consisting of three species only from the Afrotropical region.New informationDuring a survey of the long-legged flies from Korea, the authors discovered a new species, Euxiphoceruslignicola sp. nov. Detailed morphological characters and photographs of the new species, as well as a checklist and key to species of this genus, are provided herein. The two species described from Oriental China, Systenusjinxiuensis Lin & Yang, 2022 and S.sinensis Yang & Gaimari, 2004, are transferred to Euxiphocerus Parent, 1935 (comb. nov.) by similarity in external morphological characters.

Project description:Previously, no records of Syntormon Loew, 1857 species were known from Inner Mongolia (China). The genus is reported here from Inner Mongolia for the first time, with the description of a new species, S.sinicum sp. nov., along with two previously described species, S.dukha Hollis, 1964 and S.henanense Yang & Saigusa, 2000. Syntormonsinicum sp. nov. and S.dukha Hollis, 1964 are barcoded for the first time to support the species delimitation. A key to Syntormon species in China is provided.
