Crystal structure of hepta-kis-(2,6-di-methyl-phenyl isocyanide-κC)vanadium(I) iodide.

ABSTRACT: The title salt, [V(C9H9N)7](+)I(-) or [V(CNX-yl)7](+)I(-) (Xyl is 2,6-di-methyl-phen-yl), crystallized from tetra-hydro-furan at low temperatures after reacting (Et4N)(+)[V(CO)6](-), excess of CNXyl and iodine. The complex cation and the two crystallographically different iodide anions, each located on a different glide plane, are well separated in the crystal structure. The V(CN)7 core of the cation has the form of a distorted monocapped trigonal prism. This compound is of inter-est as the first isolable homoleptic seven-coordinate vanadium analog of the 18-electron [V(CO)7](+) monocation.

Project description:In the title crystals, C8H5Br2N, which are isomorphous, the steric bulk of the methyl group causes neighboring mol-ecules to become mutually inclined. This prevents the formation of planar or nearly planar sheets, which were observed in the tri-chloro and tri-bromo analogs. Instead of CN/NC⋯Br contacts, tetra-meric Br⋯Br contacts are observed. These contacts form tetra-gonally puckered sheets parallel to (001). The CN/NC and methyl groups are grouped at the peaks and troughs. Both mol-ecules lie across crystallographic mirror planes; thus, the methyl H atoms are disordered over two sets of sites with equal occupancy. The title nitrile is a redetermination. The refinement converged at R[F2 > 2σ(F2)] = 0.020, whereas the original determination [Gleason & Britton, (1976 ▸). Cryst. Struct. Commun.5, 229-232] had R = 0.112.

Project description:The reaction of the [K(18-crown-6)(thf)2]1+ (thf is tetra-hydro-furan) salt of bis-(anthracene)ferrate(-1), or [Fe(C14H10)2]-, with 2,6-di-methyl-phenyl isocyan-ide (CNX-yl) in thf resulted in the formation of two new iron isocyanide complexes, namely, [(1,2,3,4-η)-anthracene]tris-(2,6-di-methyl-phenyl isocyanide)iron, [Fe(C14H10)(C9H9N)3] or [Fe(1,2,3,4-η-C14H10)(CNX-yl)3], and {5,6-bis-(2,6-di-methyl-anilino)-3-(2,6-di-methyl-phen-yl)-1,2,7-tris-[(2,6-di-methyl-phen-yl)imino]-3-azoniahept-3-ene-1,4,7-triido}tris-(2,6-di-methyl-phenyl isocyanide)iron tetra-hydro-furan disolvate, [Fe(C54H56N6)(C9H9N)3]·2C4H8O or [Fe(C54H56N6)(CNX-yl)3]·2C4H8O, which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The former is likely an inter-mediate along the path to the known homoleptic [Fe(CNX-yl)5], while the latter contains a tridentate ligand that is formed from the 'coupling' of six CNXyl ligands. A third crystal structure from this reaction, (7-methyl-indol-1-ido-κN)(1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa-oxa-cyclo-octa-decane-κ6 O)potassium, [K(C9H8N)(C12H24O6)] or [K(C9H8N)(18-crown-6)], contains a 7-methyl-indol-1-ide anion, in which one CNXyl ligand has shed a proton during its reductive cyclization.

Project description:The six-membered thio-pyran ring in the title compound, C(24)H(19)BrS, adopts an approximate envelope conformation, with the S atom displaced by 0.26 (1) Å and the 2-methyl-ene C atom by -0.54 (1) Å from the plane of the other four sp(2)-hydridized C atoms. The methyl substituent on the methyl-ene carbon lies in a pseudo-axial position with the phenyl ring in a pseudo-equatorial position.

Project description:In the title compounds, C27H28N2O3, (I), and C28H30N2O3, (II), the conformation about the C=N bond is E. The piperidine rings adopt chair conformations with the attached phenyl rings almost normal to their mean planes, the dihedral angles being 85.82 (8) and 85.84 (7)° in (I), and 87.98 (12) and 86.42 (13)° in (II). The phenyl rings are inclined to one another by 52.87 (8)° in (I) and by 60.51 (14)° in (II). The main difference in the conformation of the two compounds is the angle of inclination of the phen-oxy-carbonyl ring to the piperidine ring mean plane. In (I), these two planes are almost coplanar, with a dihedral angle of 2.05 (8)°, while in (II), this angle is 45.24 (13)°. In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with R 2 (2)(14) loops. The dimers are linked via C-H⋯π inter-actions forming a three-dimensional network. In the crystal of (II), there are no significant inter-molecular inter-actions present.

Project description:In the title compound, C(22)H(20)N(+)·I(-), the dihedral angles between the central pyridine ring and two outer benzene rings are 15.30 (10) and 11.82 (11)°. There are inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions between the nearest phenyl ring over an inversion-related pyridyl ring, the shortest centroid-centroid distance being 3.672 (3) Å. The crystal structure of the compound indicates the 2,6-distyryl substituents have an E configuration.
