Discovery of the genus Formosiepyris Terayama, (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae) in Vietnam, with a description of a new species.

ABSTRACT: Formosiepyrisvietnamensis sp. n. (Hymenoptera: Bethylidae) is described based on material collected from Da Lat, southern Vietnam. This is the first record of Formosiepyris Terayama from Vietnam. The new species can be distinguished from other Formosiepyris species by a narrow and rounded clypeus; a mandible with three teeth; a second metasomal tergite having small, sparsely distributed punctures and smooth interspaces, except for anterior 2/5, which is microreticulate; and a head length : width aspect ratio of 10 : 11. A key to the Oriental species of Formosiepyris is provided.

Review of the genus Hartemita Cameron, 1910 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Cardiochilinae), with the description of six new species from Vietnam.

Project description:The Oriental and East Palaearctic genus Hartemita Cameron, 1910 (Braconidae: Cardiochilinae) is recorded for the first time from Vietnam. Sixteen species of the genus Hartemita are currently recognized from Oriental and East Palaearctic regions. One species is newly recorded for Vietnam, Hartemita singaporensis (Mao, 1945)and six new species from Vietnam are described and illustrated: Hartemita coffeanasp. n., Hartemita daklakasp. n., Hartemita khuatbaolinhaesp. n., Hartemita similissp. n., Hartemita maculatasp. n. and Hartemita vietnamicasp. n. A key to species of the genus Hartemita Cameron is included.

Review of the genus Canalirogas van Achterberg & Chen (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Rogadinae) from Vietnam, with description of ten new species.

Project description:The Vietnamese species of the genus Canalirogas van Achterberg & Chen, 1996 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Rogadinae) are revised. Ten species are new to science, viz., Canalirogasaffinis sp. n., Canalirogascucphuongensis sp. n., Canalirogascurvinervis sp. n., Canalirogaseurycerus sp. n., Canalirogashoabinhicus sp. n., Canalirogasintermedius sp. n., Canalirogasparallelus sp. n., Canalirogasrobberti sp. n., Canalirogasvittatus sp. n. and Canalirogasvuquangensis sp. n. One species is new for the Vietnamese fauna: Canalirogasspilonotus (Cameron, 1905) and Canalirogasbalgooyi van Achterberg & Chen, 1996, is synonymized with it (syn. n.); a lectotype is designated for Troporhogasspilonotus. A key to the Vietnamese species of the genus is also provided.

Revision of Taiwanese and Ryukyuan species of Pristepyris Kieffer, 1905, with description of a new species (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae).

Project description:The pristocerine genus Pristepyris comprises 38 valid species recorded worldwide, except in the Australian Region. Of them, three species, namely P.mieae (Terayama, 1995), P.tainanensis (Terayama, 1995) and P.takasago (Terayama, 1996), have been recorded from Taiwan and three species, i.e. P.ishigakiensis (Yasumatsu, 1955), P.minutus (Yasumatsu, 1955) and P.ryukyuensis (Terayama, 1999), from the Ryukyus in Japan. In the present study, the species-level classification of both Taiwanese and Ryukyuan species of Pristepyris was revised using newly-collected specimens by the external and male genital morphological as well as molecular phylogenetic analysis. Overall, six species of Pristepyris were recorded from Taiwan and the Ryukyus. Among these, five were previously recorded for the region and were revised here: P.ishigakiensis, P.mieae, P.ryukyuensis, P.tainanensis and P.zhejiangensis. Additionally, a new species, P.seqalu sp. nov., is herein described and illustrated. Furthermore, the species P.minutus is transferred to Eleganesia and P.takasago is synonymized under P.minutus. Due to the new combination of Pristepyrisminutus, a key to Taiwanese and Ryukyuan species of the genus Eleganesia, based on male morphology, is provided in Appendix 1. We confirmed for the first time the correspondence between the male and female species of P.zhejiangensis by molecular data. High compatibility in species delimitation patterns, suggested by the morphological and molecular phylogenetic approaches, highlighted the significance of the former approach for accurately classifying aged voucher specimens of Pristocerinae in public collections.

First discovery of the ant genus Eburopone Borowiec, 2016 (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Dorylinae) in the Oriental realm, with description of a new species from Vietnam.

Project description:The doryline ant genus Eburopone Borowiec, 2016 currently contains only one valid species, E.wroughtoni (Forel, 1910) from southern Africa, with a considerable number of undescribed species awaiting formal description in the Afrotropical and Malagasy regions. In the present paper, Eburoponeeasoanasp. nov. is described based on workers and dealate queens from a colony series collected in an evergreen forest on the Dak Lak Plateau of Vietnam (Ea So Nature Reserve, Dak Lak Province). The worker of the new species is morphologically clearly distinguished from E.wroughtoni by the combination of following characteristics: i) frontal line distinct, extending a little beyond mid-length of cranium; ii) anterior (frontoclypeal) margins of torulo-posttorular complex not forming conspicuous lobes protruding over anterior clypeal margin in full-face view; iii) mandibles when closed in full-face view forming only a little space between anterior clypeal margin and mandibles; iv) promesonotal suture faint and inconspicuous; v) abdominal segment III in dorsal view distinctly wider than long, with lateral margins only feebly convex. This represents the first discovery of the genus Eburopone in the Oriental realm, revealing the disjunct distribution of the genus. A partial sequence of the mitochondrial COI gene (658 bp) is provided as a DNA barcode for the new species. A worker-based key to the doryline genera of the Oriental realm is also provided.

Pseudofornicia gen. n. (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Microgastrinae), a new Indo-Australian genus and one new species from Vietnam.

Project description:Pseudofornicia gen. n. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Microgastrinae) is described (type species: Pseudofornicia nigrisoma sp. n. from Vietnam) including three Oriental (type species, Pseudofornicia flavoabdominis (He & Chen, 1994), comb. n. and Pseudofornicia vanachterbergi Long, (nom. n. for Fornicia achterbergi Long, 2007; not Fornicia achterbergi Yang & Chen, 2006) and one Australian species (Pseudofornicia commoni (Austin & Dangerfield, 1992), comb. n.). Keys to genera with similar metasomal carapace and to species of the new genus are provided. The new genus shares the curved inner middle tibial spur, the comparatively small head, the median carina of the first metasomal tergite and the metasomal carapace with Fornicia Brullé, 1846, but has the first tergite movably joined to the second tergite and the third tergite 1.1-1.6 × as long as the second tergite medially and is flattened in lateral view. One of the included species is a primary homonym and is renamed in this paper.
