Crystal structure of (E)-4,4'-(but-2-ene-1,4-di-yl)bis-(2-meth-oxy-phenol).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C18H20O4, was synthesized via the ruthenium-catalyzed alkene methathesis dimerization of eugenol. The whole mol-ecule is generated by inversion symmetry; the center of inversion being located at the mid-point of the trans C=C bond. The phenol ring is inclined to the mean plane of the central C-C=C-C unit (r.m.s. deviation = 0.014 Å) by 68.83 (16)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, involving the hy-droxy and meth-oxy groups, forming undulating sheets parallel to (010).

The whole mol-ecule of compound (I) is generated by twofold rotation symmetry, the twofold axis bis-ecting the central benzene ring. The whole mol-ecule of compound (II) is generated by inversion symmetry, the central benzene ring being located on an inversion center. In (I), the outer benzene rings are inclined to each other by 59.96 (10)° and by 36.74 (9)° to the central benzene ring. The corresponding dihedral angles in (II) are 0.0 and 89.87 (12)°. In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming ribbons propagating along the [10] direction. In the crystal of (II), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a supra-molecular framework. The Hirshfeld surface analyses indicate that for both compounds the H⋯H contacts are the most significant, followed by O⋯H/H⋯O and C⋯H/H⋯C contacts.

Project description:The title compound, C18H14Cl2O4, adopts a Z conformation around the cental C=C bond. The two aromatic rings of the mol-ecule are nearly perpendicular to each other, with a dihedral angle between of 86.22 (14)°. The meth-oxy substituents lie close to the plane of the attached benzene rings. The C(ar)-C(ar)-O-C(Me) torsion angles are -2.4 (7) and 7.5 (6)°. Weak C-H⋯O inter-actions link the mol-ecules forming a three-dimensional network. The crystal packing also displays short [3.160 (3) Å] Cl⋯O halogen-bonding contacts between mol-ecules related by the screw axis. The structure exhibits disorder of one carbonyl O atom with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.21 (6):0.79 (6).

In (I), the asymmetric unit consists of two crystallographically independent 4-meth-oxy-benzoic acid mol-ecules and one 1,3-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)propane mol-ecule. The asymmetric unit of (II) comprises one biphenyl-4,4'-di-carb-oxy-lic acid mol-ecule and two independent 4-meth-oxy-pyridine mol-ecules. In each crystal, the acid and base mol-ecules are linked by short O-H⋯N/N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, in which H atoms are disordered over the acid O-atom and base N-atom sites, forming a linear hydrogen-bonded 2:1 or 1:2 unit of the acid and the base. The 2:1 units of (I) are linked via C-H⋯π, π-π and C-H⋯O inter-actions into a tape structure along [101], while the 1:2 units of (II) form a double-chain structure along [-101] through π-π and C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:In the title coordination polymer, [Cd(C(16)H(12)O(8)S)(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Cd(II) ion is situated on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis, being coordinated by four O atoms from two bidentate 4,4'-[sulfonyl-bis-(1,4-phenyl-ene-oxy)]diacetate (L) ligands and two water mol-ecules in a highly distorted CdO(6) octa-hedral geometry. Each complete ligand L, which is also generated by twofold symmetry with the S atom lying on the rotation axis, bridges two Cd(II) atoms to form a polymeric zigzag chain propagating in the [10-1] direction. Project description:The title mol-ecule, C18H16O2S2, reveals crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry (with both S atoms lying on the axis) and one half-mol-ecule defines an asymmetric unit. The dithiine ring is in a boat conformation. The aromatic ring and the C=C bond are nearly coplanar, with small torsion angles of -171.26 (19) and 8.5 (3)°. The two S-C bond lengths [1.7391 (19) and 1.7795 (18) Å] are shorter than single C-S bonds and longer than analogous C=S double bonds, which indicates a certain degree of conjugation between the lone pair on the S atom and π electrons of the C=C bond. The crystal packing only features van der Waals inter-actions.
