Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of a 2-(diethylaminomethyl)indole ligated dimethyl-aluminium complex.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Al(CH3)2(C13H17N2)] (systematic name; {2-[(di-ethyl-amino)-meth-yl]indol-1-yl-κ(2) N,N'}di-methyl-aluminium), was prepared by methane elimination from the reaction of 2-(di-ethyl-amino-meth-yl)indole and tri-methyl-aluminium. The complex crystallizes readily from a concentrated toluene solution in high yield. The asymmetric unit contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. Each mol-ecule has a four-coordinate aluminium atom that has pseudo-tetra-hedral geometry. C-H⋯π inter-actions link the independent mol-ecules into chains extending along the b-axis direction.

Project description:In the title compound, C27H21FN2O4, the mean planes of the two indole ring systems (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0166 and 0.0086 Å) are approximately perpendic-ular to one another, making a dihedral angle of 87.8 (5)°; the fluorobenzene ring is twisted with respect to the mean planes of the two indole ring systems at 82.7 (5) and 85.5 (3)°. In the crystal, pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into the inversion dimers, which are further linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into supra-molecular chains propagating along the b-axis direction. Weak C-H⋯π inter-actions are observed between neighbouring chains.

Project description:The title compound, C20H24N2O4, is the product of a ring-expansion reaction from a seven-membered hexa-hydro-azepine to a nine-membered azonine. The azonine ring of the mol-ecule adopts a chair-boat conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds, generating [010] zigzag chains. The title compound shows inhibitory activity against acetyl-cholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, and might be considered as a candidate for the design of new types of anti-Alzheimer's drugs.

The benzene ring is twisted with respect to the mean planes of the two indole ring systems at angles of 80.14 (15) and 86.30 (15)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R (2) 2(18) ring motif. The dimers are linked by a further N-H⋯O hydrogen bond, forming chains along [100]. There are intra- and inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions present, the latter linking the chains to form a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H⋯π inter-actions into a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture. A void of 33.0 (7) Å(3) is observed in the crystal structure. The solvent ethanol molecule acts as a donor, forming an O-H⋯O hydrogen bond, reinforcing the framework structure.

Structure of ADP-aluminium fluoride-stabilized protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase complex.

Project description:Photosynthesis uses chlorophylls for the conversion of light into chemical energy, the driving force of life on Earth. During chlorophyll biosynthesis in photosynthetic bacteria, cyanobacteria, green algae and gymnosperms, dark-operative protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (DPOR), a nitrogenase-like metalloenzyme, catalyzes the chemically challenging two-electron reduction of the fully conjugated ring system of protochlorophyllide a. The reduction of the C-17=C-18 double bond results in the characteristic ring architecture of all chlorophylls, thereby altering the absorption properties of the molecule and providing the basis for light-capturing and energy-transduction processes of photosynthesis. We report the X-ray crystallographic structure of the substrate-bound, ADP-aluminium fluoride-stabilized (ADP·AlF(3)-stabilized) transition state complex between the DPOR components L(2) and (NB)(2) from the marine cyanobacterium Prochlorococcus marinus. Our analysis permits a thorough investigation of the dynamic interplay between L(2) and (NB)(2). Upon complex formation, substantial ATP-dependent conformational rearrangements of L(2) trigger the protein-protein interactions with (NB)(2) as well as the electron transduction via redox-active [4Fe-4S] clusters. We also present the identification of artificial "small-molecule substrates" of DPOR in correlation with those of nitrogenase. The catalytic differences and similarities between DPOR and nitrogenase have broad implications for the energy transduction mechanism of related multiprotein complexes that are involved in the reduction of chemically stable double and/or triple bonds.

Crystal structure of di-benzyl-dimethyl-silane.

Project description:In the title compound, C16H20Si, a geometry different from an ideal tetra-hedron can be observed at the Si atom. The bonds from Si to the benzylic C atoms [Si-C = 1.884 (1) and 1.883 (1) Å] are slightly elongated compared to the Si-Cmeth-yl bonds [Si-C = 1.856 (1) and 1.853 (1) Å]. The Cbenz-yl-Si-Cbenz-yl bond angle [C-Si-C = 107.60 (6)°] is decreased from the ideal tetra-hedral angle by 1.9°. These distortions can be explained easily by Bent's rule. In the crystal, mol-ecules inter-act only by van der Waals forces.

A Nonheme Thiolate-Ligated Cobalt Superoxo Complex: Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterization, Computational Studies, and Hydrogen Atom Abstraction Reactivity.

Project description:The synthesis and characterization of a Co(II) dithiolato complex Co(Me3TACN)(S2SiMe2) (1) are reported. Reaction of 1 with O2 generates a rare thiolate-ligated cobalt-superoxo species Co(O2)(Me3TACN)(S2SiMe2) (2) that was characterized spectroscopically and structurally by resonance Raman, EPR, and X-ray absorption spectroscopies as well as density functional theory. Metal-superoxo species are proposed to S-oxygenate metal-bound thiolate donors in nonheme thiol dioxygenases, but 2 does not lead to S-oxygenation of the intramolecular thiolate donors and does not react with exogenous sulfur donors. However, complex 2 is capable of oxidizing the O-H bonds of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-ol derivatives via H atom abstraction. Complementary proton-coupled electron-transfer reactivity is seen for 2 with separated proton/reductant pairs. The reactivity studies indicate that 2 can abstract H atoms from weak X-H bonds with bond dissociation free energy (BDFE) ≤ 70 kcal mol-1. DFT calculations predict that the putative Co(OOH) product has an O-H BDFE = 67 kcal mol-1, which matches the observed pattern of reactivity seen for 2. These data provide new information regarding the selectivity of S-oxygenation versus H atom abstraction in thiolate-ligated nonheme metalloenzymes that react with O2.

The caesium salt of dimethyl-N-benzoylamidophosphate, namely, aqua[dimethyl (N-benzoylamido-κO)phosphonato-κO]caesium, [Cs(C9H11NO4P)(H2O)] or CsL·H2O, is reported. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system in the P21/c space group and forms a mono-periodic polymeric structure due to the bridging function of the dimethyl-N-benzoylamidophosphate anions towards the caesium cations.
