Two new species and five newly recorded species of the genus Udea Guenee from China (Lepidoptera, Crambidae).

ABSTRACT: A checklist of the 31 Chinese species of Udea is given, including the new species and new records. Udea curvata sp. n. and Udea albostriata sp. n. are described and illustrated. Udea exigualis (Wileman, 1911), Udea stationalis Yamanaka, 1988, Udea prunalis (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775), Udea elutalis (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) and Udea cyanalis (La Harpe, 1855) are newly recorded for China.

Project description:Four new species, Kitanolashilinensis sp. nov., K.eleganta sp. nov., Fignyaravalba sp. nov., and Euphlyctinidespseudolaika sp. nov., are described from southwestern China. Two species are reported new to China, Euphlyctinidisindi Solovyev, 2009 and Limacocerapachycera (Hampson, 1897). The adults and genitalia of all the treated species are illustrated. A checklist for the species belonging to the treated genera is provided.

Project description:Lasiochira wuzhishanensis Yin, sp. nov. is described herein from the island province of Hainan, China. It is diagnosed from a similar species, Lasiochira jianfengensis Yin, Wang & Park, 2014. Both species are sympatric in Hainan province, but the latter is also known in northern Vietnam. Lasiochira pallidiptera Yin, Wang & Park, 2014 is recorded for the first time from China. Color images of the adults and genitalia of the above three species are provided. In addition, a checklist and a geographical distribution map of all species of Lasiochira Meyrick are included.

Five new species of Bradina Lederer (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) from China, with remarks on the morphology of the genus.

Project description:Bradina is a species-rich genus that differs from most other Spilomelinae genera because of its distinctive wing venation. Most species of this genus are very similar in appearance. In this study, we have studied morphological characteristics of the genus and eight closely related species from China. Among them, B.falciculata Guo & Du, sp. nov., B.fusoidea Guo & Du, sp. nov., B.spirella Guo & Du, sp. nov., B.ternifolia Guo & Du, sp. nov. and B.torsiva Guo & Du, sp. nov. are described as new to science. Bradinamegesalis (Walker, 1859), B.translinealis Hampson, 1896 and B.subpurpurescens (Warren, 1896) are redescribed based on their holotypes and additional material, and the latter two are newly recorded from China and their genitalia are described for the first time. The images of the habitus and genitalia of these eight species are provided, with a key to their identification.

The new genus Purpurata (Lepidoptera, Crambidae, Spilomelinae), with descriptions of two new species from China.

Project description:The male genitalia characters of four species, Botysiopasalis Walker, 1859, Pleuroptyaobfuscalis Yamanaka, 1998, Botysplagiatalis Walker, 1859 and Pataniashompen Singh et Ahmad, 2022, placed in the genus Patania Moore, 1888 before the present study, do not conform to the diagnosis of Patania. A new genus, Purpurata gen. nov., is established for these four species, and two new species, Purpuratadirecta sp. nov. and Purpuratalurida sp. nov. are described based on their external morphology and genitalia characters. Purpuratadirecta sp. nov. is designated as the type species of the new genus. Five species of the new genus were clearly separated from Patania species in the Maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree constructed based on COI sequence data. Compared to Patania, the new genus Purpurata exhibits distinctive characters in male genitalia: the uncus is short, broad, and arc-shaped posteriorly; the gnathos is present and setose, or reduced; and the fibula is very small and setose. In addition, Pataniaclava (Xu & Du), syn. nov. is synonymized with Purpurataiopasalis comb. nov. An identification key to species of the new genus is presented based on morphological characters of habitus and genitalia. Images of the habitus and genitalia are provided.

Project description:BackgroundDolichosoma Stephens, 1830 is small genus belonging to the tribe Dasytini of the family Dasytidae (Coleoptera, Cleroidea), with two subgenera and five species hitherto known. It is widespread in the Palearctic Region of Eurasia, but has never been reported from China until now.New informationThe genus Dolichosoma Stephens, 1830 is reported from China for the first time, with discoveries of two newly-recorded species, including D. (Dolichomorphus) femorale Morawitz, 1861 and D. (Dolichosoma) lineare (Rossi, 1794) from Xinjiang Autonomous Region. They are re-described in detail and illustrated with habitus, ultimate abdominal tergites and sternites and genitalia of both sexes, as well as tarsal claws of male. In addition, a macrohabitat photograph and a distribution map of the two species occurring in China are provided.

Project description:Two new species belonging to the genus Glaucocharis Meyrick, 1938 are described from southwest China: Glaucocharissperlingi sp. n. and G.nussi sp. n. The female of G.castaneus Song & Chen, 2002 is described for the first time. The geographical distribution of the genus in China is analysed. The precipitation of the warmest quarter is revealed to be the strongest predictor affecting the present distribution pattern of the genus. A map showing the distribution of the known Chinese localities of Glaucocharis is provided.
