Review of the Palaearctic (and Oriental) Allurus (Braconidae, Euphorinae) based on material from Sweden.

ABSTRACT:

Background

The tribe Centistini includes three genera, Allurus, Centistes and Centistoides (Stigenberg et al. 2015). They are solitary endoparasitoids of adults and final instar larvae of beetles from the family Curculionidae (Jackson 1920, Aeschlimann 1980, Tobias 1986).

New information

In this paper we present a key, molecular data (standard DNA barcode, CO1) and images of the two species of Allurus occurring in the Western Palaearctic. A third Oriental species described from China (Taiwan) is also included in the key. Allurus is a Holarctic genus with three known species (A. choui, A. lituratus, A. muricatus). Our sequence data confirms that A. muricatus and A. lituratus are two distinct and separate species and this paper points out good and easy characters to separate them.

Project description:The East Palaearctic and North Oriental species of the genus Psyttalia Walker (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Opiinae) are reviewed. Three new species are described and illustrated: Psyttalia latinervis Wu & van Achterberg, sp. n. and Psyttalia majocellata Wu & van Achterberg, sp. n. from China, and Psyttalia spectabilis van Achterberg, sp. n. from Japan. Phaedrotoma daghestanicum (Telenga, 1950), Rhogadopsis mediocarinata (Fischer, 1963) and Rhogadopsis mystica (Fischer, 1963) are new combinations. New records are Psyttalia carinata (Thomson, 1895) from The Netherlands and Norway, and Psyttalia cyclogaster (Thomson, 1895) from Japan. Rhysipolis longicaudatus Belokobylskij, 1994 (stat. nov.) is redescribed, the first host records are given and it is reported new for China.Rhysipolis longicaudatus was reared from Taleporia sp. (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and from Bazaria turensis Ragonot (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in Qinghai Province.

An illustrated key to Neotropical species of the genus Meteorus Haliday (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Euphorinae).

Project description:A comprehensive key for 75 species of Meteorus distributed across 15 Neotropical countries is presented. Eleven new species from Bolivia, Costa Rica and Ecuador are described: Meteorusalbistigma, Meteoruscarolae, Meteoruseurysaccavorus, Meteorusfallacavus, Meteorusflavistigma, Meteorushaimowitzi, Meteorusmagnoculus, Meteorusmartinezi, Meteorusmicrocavus, Meteorusnoctuivorus and Meteorusorion. Expanded range distributions are recorded for Meteorusandreae, Meteorusfarallonensis, Meteorusguineverae, Meteorusjerodi, Meteoruskraussi, Meteoruspapiliovorus and Meteorusquimbayensis. The host of Meteorusjerodi is reported for the first time: a noctuid larva feeding on Asteraceae. Meteoruspapiliovorus is recorded attacking Papilionidae larvae in Ecuador, therefore displaying a similar host family preference as formerly documented from Costa Rica and Colombia.

Two new Palaearctic species of <i>Xynobius</i> Foerster (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Opiinae).

Project description:Two new and very similar species of the genus Xynobius Foerster, 1863 are described and illustrated, X.subparallelus Han & van Achterberg, sp. nov. from Japan (Honshu) and X.setosiscutum van Achterberg, sp. nov. from Norway. Three species are newly reported from Norway: Xynobiusaciculatus (Thomson, 1895), X.comatus (Wesmael, 1835), and X.polyzonius (Wesmael, 1835). X.polyzonius (Wesmael, 1835) and X.sapporanus (Fischer, 1963) are new combinations. Identification keys to the Xynobius species known from Norway and Japan are added.

Project description:Six Japanese species belonging to the genus Aridelus Marshall, 1898 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) were recorded and photographed. Three species, A.dubius Belokobylskij, A.egregius Schmiedeknecht and A.rufotestaceus Tobias (= Aridelusrufiventris Luo & Chen syn. nov.), are new to Japan, and a new species, A.rutilipoides sp. nov. is described. An identification key to the Japanese species of Aridelus is also provided. In addition, new host records are provided, i.e., A.flavicans Chao reared from Homoeocerusunipunctatus and Riptortuspedestris (Alydidae) and A.rufotestaceus reared from Glauciassubpunctatus (Pentatomidae). The Alydidae is a newly recorded host family of Aridelus.
