Crystal structure of 1,2-bis-[(1H-imidazol-2-yl)methylidene]hydrazine and its one-dimensional hydrogen-bonding network.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C8H8N6, two imidazolyl groups are separated by a zigzag -CH=N-N=CH- linkage. An inversion center is located at the mid-point of the N-N single bond and the complete molecule is generated by symmetry. In the crystal, each mol-ecule forms four N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds with two neighbouring mol-ecules to constitute a one-dimensional ladder-like structure propagating along the a-axis direction.

Project description:The title compound, C(34)H(30)N(4)O(2), lies on an inversion center and consists of two 3-substituted-1H-indole units linked by a 1,2-dimethyl-enehydrazine bridge. It is one of numerous examples in which two aromatic ring systems are joined by this 4-atom bridge. The geometry of the centrosymmetric bridge is: C(arom)-C = 1.444 (3), C=N = 1.284 (3), N-N = 1.414 (4) Å, C(arom)-C=N = 122.6 (2) and C=N-N = 111.9 (2)°. The nine non-H atoms of the indole unit lie in a plane (δ(r.m.s.) = 0.0089 Å) which is twisted 6.0 (2)° with respect to the hydrazine bridge plane. The benzyl-oxymethyl substituents do not lie in the plane of the rest of the mol-ecule and are in a folded rather than an extended conformation. This is described by the three torsion angles in the middle of the C=N-C-O-C(Bz) group, viz. 98.5 (3), -62.1 (3), and -66.3 (2)°.

Project description:In the title compound, C(18)H(16)N(2), there are two independent half-mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit, each mol-ecule being completed by an inversion center situated in the mid-point of the central N-N bond. The mol-ecules themselves therefore are essentially planar with r.m.s. deviations of 0.015 (1) and 0.020 (1) Å, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected via C-H⋯π inter-actions in which only type B mol-ecules are donors, while both A and B mol-ecules act as acceptors. Each metal atom displays an elongated octa-hedral coordination geometry provided by two trans-arranged chloride anions and four N atoms from two BIEE ligands. Weak O-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bond inter-actions contribute to the stability of the crystal packing.

Project description:Single crystals of the title mol-ecular salt, C4H7N2 (+)·HC2O4 (-)·2H2O, were isolated from the reaction of 2-methyl-1H-imidazole and oxalic acid in a 1:1 molar ratio in water. In the crystal, the cations and anions are positioned alternately along an infinite [010] ribbon and linked together through bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds. The water mol-ecules of crystallization link the chains into (10-1) bilayers, with the methyl groups of the cations organized in an isotactic manner.
