ABSTRACT: The genus Pseudacrobasis is reviewed for China. Pseudacrobasis dilatata sp. n. is described as new and compared with Psorosa tergestella (Ragonot, 1901). Images of adults and illustrations of genital structures are provided.

Photographs of adults, wing venation, and both male and female genitalia are provided, along with a key for the identification of all the Chinese species.

A review of Lista Walker, 1859 in China, with descriptions of five new species (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae, Epipaschiinae).

Project description:Ten species of the genus Lista are recognized from China. Among them, five species are described as new to science, namely, Lista angustusasp. n., Lista gilvasasp. n., Lista longifundamenasp. n., Lista menghaiensissp. n., and Lista sichuanensissp. n. Diagnoses are provided for the genus and five previously described species, Lista haraldusalis (Walker, 1859), Lista insulsalis (Lederer, 1863), Lista ficki (Christoph, 1881), Lista plinthochroa (West, 1931), and Lista variegata (Moore, 1888), that occur in China. Two species, Lista plinthochroa and Lista variegata, are reported from China for the first time. All adults and their genital structures are illustrated. A key to the Chinese species is provided.

Project description:Two new genera of Epipaschiinae are described. The genus Arcanusa Wang, Chen & Wu, gen. n. is established for Ar. apexiarcanusa Wang, Chen & Wu, sp. n. and Ar. sinuosa (Moore, 1888), comb. n., described in Scopocera Moore, 1888 (junior synonym of Stericta Lederer, 1863). The female genitalia of Ar. sinuosa (Moore, 1888), comb. n. are described for the first time. Androconia Wang, Chen & Wu, gen. n. is erected, including two new species, An. rallusa Wang, Chen & Wu, sp. n. and An. morulusa Wang, Chen & Wu, sp. n. Illustrations of all adults and their genitalia, and a key to the two new genera are provided.

Project description:Only three species belonging to the genus Ectomyelois Heinrich, 1956 are recorded from China, of which two species, Ectomyelois bipectinalis sp. n. and Ectomyelois furvivena sp. n. are described as new. We discuss the status of Ectomyelois that has been treated as a junior synonym by previous authors; we treat it as a valid genus, revised status, based on characters of the venation and female genitalia. Photographs of the adults and illustrations of the genitalia are given, along with a key to the three known Chinese species.

Evaluation of a fluorophore for marking navel orangeworm (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae).

Project description:Navel orangeworm, Amyelois transitella (Walker), is a key pest in California's almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. This insect's strong dispersal capacity can potentially undermine the efficacy of localized management efforts. The timing and extent of A. transitella movement between orchards remain unclear, and more studies are needed to better characterize its landscape ecology. Mark-release-recapture studies offer a potential solution but require a reliable insect marker that is durable, easily identifiable and has minimal impacts on A. transitella longevity and flight ability. To address this, we evaluated 4 colors (red, blue, green, and yellow) of a fluorophore marker (SmartWater) for adult A. transitella. We conducted laboratory assays to assess moth flight ability and mortality, as well as marker persistence over time using both quantitative (plate reader) and qualitative (visual observation) fluorophore detection methods. Results demonstrated that none of the 4 colors negatively affected A. transitella flight ability or mortality. Green and yellow markers were persistent and readily identified by both detection methods, unlike blue and red markers. Although marker degradation was observed over time with the quantitative method, a high percentage of moths (70.3%) retained green and yellow markers after 14 days. In contrast, these markers did not show significant degradation using the qualitative method, with over 94.2% of moths showing fluorescence 14 days postmarking. These findings highlight the strong potential of green and yellow markers for field studies with A. transitella. We discuss their use in future mark-release-recapture studies and compare the 2 fluorophore detection methods.

Project description:The Dioryctria yiai belongs to Pyralidae in Lepidoptera. The complete mitogenome of D. yiai was described in this study, which is typical circular duplex molecules and 15,430 bp in length, containing the standard metazoan set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and an A + T-rich region. The gene order is same with other lepidopterans. Except for cox1 started with CGA, all other PCGs started with the standard ATN codons. Most of the PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA, whereas cox2 has the incomplete stop codon T. The phylogenetic tree showed that D. yiai and other six species belong to Phycitinae, are clustered into a clade.
