Veterans Airflow Obstruction Screening Questionnaire: A Survey to Identify Veterans with Airflow Obstruction.

ABSTRACT: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality within the Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA) and is frequently under-diagnosed. We developed the Veterans Airflow Screening Questionnaire (VAFOSQ) to improve the identification of Veterans with airflow obstruction (AFO), the most commonly used criterion for the diagnosis of COPD.We created an initial survey with 78 variables that have been associated with AFO. A total of 825 patients in 3 primary care clinics performed spirometry after bronchodilator administration and completed the initial survey.
