Tobacco Use Among Adults by Sexual Orientation: Findings from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study.

ABSTRACT:

Purpose

The aim of this study was to characterize lifetime tobacco use across two measures of sexual orientation and six types of tobacco products.

Methods

We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (Wave 1, 2013-2014, USA) to estimate the prevalence of tobacco use (cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookah, and smokeless) stratified by gender (men/women), age (< 25/≥ 25 years old), and sexual orientation. Sexual orientation was operationalized as sexual identity and sexual attraction.
