Reinvestigation of the crystal structure of N-(4-chloro-benzyl-idene)-2-hy-droxy-aniline: a three-dimensional structure containing O-H⋯N, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds.

ABSTRACT: The mol-ecule of the title compound, C₁₃H₁₀ClNO, (I), which contains an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond, is almost planar: the dihedral angle between the two aryl rings is only 3.31 (9)°. The mol-ecules of (I) are linked into sheets by two C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds and the sheets are linked into a three-dimensional structure by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with the structures of a number of related compounds.

Project description:In the title compound, C13H10FNO, the benzene ring planes are inclined at an angle of 50.52 (8)°. A characteristic of aromatic Schiff bases with N-aryl substituents is that the terminal phenyl rings are twisted relative to the plane of the HC=N link between them. In this case, the HC=N unit makes dihedral angles of 10.6 (2) and 40.5 (2)° with the hy-droxy-benzene and fluro-benzene rings, respectively. In the crystal, O-H⋯N and C-H⋯F hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of chains along the c- and b-axis directions, respectively. C-H⋯π contacts link mol-ecules along a and these contacts combine to generate a three-dimensional network with mol-ecules stacked along the b-axis direction.

Project description:In the title compound, C(13)H(10)BrNO, the benzene ring planes are inclined at an angle of 48.85 (17)°, resulting in a nonplanar mol-ecule. A characteristic of aromatic Schiff bases with N-aryl substituents is that the terminal phenyl rings are twisted relative to the HC=N plane. In this case, the HC=N unit makes dihedral angles of 11.1 (4) and 38.5 (3)° with the hy-droxy-benzene and bromo-benzene rings, respectively. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to form infinite (C8) chains along the b axis.

Crystal structure of (E)-4-hy-droxy-N'-(3-hy-droxy-benzyl-idene)benzohydrazide monohydrate.

Project description:In the title benzohydrazide hydrate, C14H12N2O3·H2O, the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 58.11 (6)° and the C=O and N-H groups adopt an anti orientation. The main twist in the mol-ecule occurs about the C(=O)-Car (ar = aromatic) bond, with an N-C(=O)-Car-Car torsion angle of -43.5 (2)°. In the crystal, the components are linked by N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These inter-actions generate [10-1] chains, with adjacent organic mol-ecules linked by inversion symmetry generating either pairs of N-H⋯O links [R 2 (2)(16) loops] or pairs of O-H⋯O links [R 2 (2)(20) loops]. Pairs of water mol-ecules are located in the R 2 (2)(20) loops and form their own O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to adjacent organic mol-ecules in the chain. Finally, an inter-chain O-H⋯O hydrogen-bond link from the 4-hy-droxy group generates (010) sheets.

Project description:The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(10)H(11)N(3)O(3), adopts an all-trans conformation and is approxomately planar, the largest deviation from the least-squares plane through all non-H atoms being 0.261 (1) Å. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are packed into layers lying parallel to the ab plane by π-stacking inter-actions between the benzene ring of one molecule and the C-N bond of the oxime group of another molecule; the shortest inter-molecular C⋯C separation within the layer is 3.412 (1) Å. The layers are connected by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
