An integrated dataset on organisational culture, job satisfaction and performance in the hospitality industry.

ABSTRACT: The relevance of organisational culture on job satisfaction and performance particularly within the hospitality sector cannot be over-emphasized. The culture of an organization goes a long way in distinguishing it from other organizations because it shows its ability to either be successful or to fail. To however achieve excellence and high-level performance, it is important to note that for effective and efficient operation, an organization would need a formal approach of communication as well as for making decisions and completing the tasks to match the needs of the organization. The managerial implications drawn from the study is that organizations should take advantage of their culture and inculcate values that will enhance performance.

Survey dataset on leadership styles and job satisfaction: The Perspective of employees of hospitality providers.

Project description:This study aimed at establishing the relationship between the dimensions of leadership styles and employees' job satisfaction in hospitality industry in Nigeria. This study was prompted by reports of high labour turnover in this sector of the economy (especially in the guesthouses), because of reduction in the satisfaction of the workforce. Cross-sectional research design which is quantitative in nature, was the methodology adopted for this study to assess the trends of relationships between the constructs. Questionnaire was used as the measuring instrument, and reliability and validity test for the instrument were established using cronbach alpha, for all the variables ranging between 71% and 89%. The study population comprises 410 employees in the six selected functioning guesthouses, which also represents the study sample. Total enumeration sampling technique was adopted. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software package (version 22) was used for the analysis of the data. The field dataset is available to the public for more rigorous, extensive, critical and extended analysis.

Dataset on brand culture and perceived value of offerings to customers in the hospitality industry in Nigeria.

Project description:This study critically examines the role of brand culture in influencing the perceived value of offerings to customers within the hospitality industry in Nigeria. In today's competitive market, the extent at which organizations disregard the importance of developing a strong brand culture before communicating their value to the outside world has become worrisome. Hence, this study filled in the gaps and a total of 434 customers drawn from six different hotels in Lagos state, Nigeria, were sampled. The data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Management of these hotels were able to define their expectations in order to deliver a consistent brand experience to their customers. The result showed that brand culture has positive significant influence on the perceived value of offerings to customers. Important recommendations have also been made.

Survey dataset on occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job performance among male fertility patients.

Project description:This article presents data on occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job performance among male fertility patients. The data were collected from 11 November 2021 until 30 October 2022. A quantitative research approach was employed, involving a questionnaire development and survey. A sample of 309 was selected, using simple random sampling, from the pool of male patients that had undergone seminal fluid analysis (SFA) and received treatment from four private fertility clinics in Malaysia. Respondents were asked to give their consent by signing a consent form, for ethical research purposes. The questionnaire asked respondents about their demographics, sperm quality, occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job performance. The data could help other researchers to develop research on management issue in the context of male fertility, as well as organisations to maintain the health and welfare of their employees.

COVID-19, government measures and hospitality industry performance.

Project description:This study explores the interplay between public measures adopted by the U.S. government to combat COVID-19 and the performance of the American hospitality industry. The recent global pandemic is a natural experiment for exploring the role of government interventions and their direct impact on hospitality stock returns in the U.S. financial market. Overall, our findings show that most of the government interventions were associated with a negative response in the returns of the hospitality industry, a response that became more negative as the COVID-19 pandemic evolved. Similar patterns were also detected for other industries such as entertainment and transportation that are closely related to hospitality. The findings we document are fundamental to understanding the trends and fluctuations in hospitality stocks in the current crisis and any similar crisis in the future.

Dataset on Islamic school teachers' organizational commitment as factors affecting job satisfaction and job performance.

Project description:This dataset aims to examine the effect of Organizational Commitment (OC) factors on Job Performance (JP) and Job Satisfaction (JS) at Islamic schools in Indonesia. The data propose that OC factors (Affective Commitment (AC), Normative Commitment (NC), and Continuance Commitment (CC)) have significant influences on JS and JP. Through the survey approach, 387 responses were obtained from Islamic schoolteachers in Indonesia. Face and content validity were initiated after the adaptation of the survey instrument. Further, a Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was used to test the reliability and validity of the measurement model. For this purpose, the statistical process presents reflective indicator loadings, internal consistency reliability, and convergent and discriminant validity. Future researchers may reuse this dataset as a potential instrument to measure factors affecting job satisfaction and job performance within the context of education.

The role of aesthetics in tourist satisfaction in the Ghanaian hospitality industry.

Project description:PurposeThe study examines the role of aesthetics in tourist satisfaction in the Ghanaian hospitality industry.Design/methodology/approachThe study is quantitative and cross-sectional in nature. A total of 5 tourist destinations and 350 tourists were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data for the study was gathered using self-reported questionnaires and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). A total of 300 retrieved questionnaires representing 85.7 % of response rate was used for data analysis.FindingsThe study results proved that the three main types of aesthetics that influence tourists' visitation to tourist destinations are visual product aesthetics, package aesthetics and taste aesthetics. The study also discovered that visual product aesthetics, package aesthetics and taste aesthetics had significant positive correlations with tourist satisfaction. Again, the results established that, aesthetic types (visual product aesthetics and package aesthetics) have significant positive impact on tourists' satisfaction whereas taste aesthetics has a negative effect on tourists' satisfaction.Research limitations/implicationsThe Ghanaian hospitality sector should push creativity to new heights by ensuring that venues change their appearance and ambiance through the use of creative lights, music, and food setups, so as to often attract consumers and offer them a completely unique experience each time. The hospitality sector also need to provide more effective and dependable channels for user complaints, recommendations, and contributions, as well as consumer feedback systems.Originality/valueThe study adds to literature on aesthetics and tourist satisfaction as well as contributes to the agenda towards tourist destination sustainability.

Technology- or human-related service innovation? Enhancing customer satisfaction, delight, and loyalty in the hospitality industry

Project description:To sustain a company’s competitive advantage, providing innovative products or services is inevitable. Previous researches mainly focused on technology-related service innovation (TRSI), letting human-related service innovation (HRSI) remain largely unstudied. However, the authors believe that human service is the vital factor affecting customers’ experiences and thus cannot be overlooked. This study applied the PLS-SEM method to examine the role of TRSI and HRSI and conclude that HRSI applications have a stronger effect on satisfaction and delight. TRSI also moderates the relationship between HRSI applications and delight. Our results provide new information and meaningful guidelines to hospitality practitioners and academic research. The moderating effect of emotional competence on job satisfaction and organisational commitment of healthcare professionals.

Project description:BackgroundHealthcare organisations, such as hospitals, are largely seen as task-oriented, width different people expected to work in interdependent teams. The objective of this study was to investigate the relevance of individual factors (job satisfaction) and individual competences (emotional competence) for organisational commitment in a sample of healthcare professionals.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among 96 healthcare professionals from March to June 2018 in the catchment area of five clinics in Bavaria, Germany. The present research examined the moderating role of emotional competence on the relationship between job satisfaction and organisational commitment using moderated regression analysis and simple slope analysis.ResultsMultiple regression analysis indicated that emotional competence moderated the relationship between satisfaction with the job and commitment to the job. The results showed that healthcare professionals with high emotional competence are able to deal more effectively with dissatisfaction in the workplace so that organisational commitment remains unaffected.ConclusionsBased on the findings of this study emotional competence of healthcare professionals is important for increasing job satisfaction and commitment to the job. Especially for healthcare professionals whose job satisfaction is low, a high level of emotional competence enables them to maintain a high level of organisational commitment. The findings of the study are discussed at the theoretical level for researchers and practical level for hospital managers interested in fostering emotional competence and improving healthcare professionals' job satisfaction and their organisational commitment, which ultimately may lead to effective performance.

Workforce diversity among public healthcare workers in Nigeria: Implications on job satisfaction and organisational commitment.

Project description:The aim of this research was to present a data article that identify the relationship between workforce diversity, job satisfaction and employee commitment among public healthcare workers in Nigeria. Copies of structured questionnaire were administered to 133 public healthcare workers from the Lagos state ministry of health in Nigeria. Using descriptive and structural equation modelling statistical analysis, the data revealed the relationship between workforce diversity and job satisfaction, workforce diversity and organisational commitment, and the role of job satisfaction on organisational commitment was also established.

Job Satisfaction Level of Safety and Health Manager in Construction Industry: Pandemic Period.

Project description:In a widespread social turmoil such as the Pandemic, job groups with high turnover rates and high job stress, such as the construction industry, will have a greater adverse impact than the general job group. This is to be used as basic data in preparing management plans by identifying the factors that hinder job stress and job satisfaction of construction workers. In this study, during the Pandemic period (1 September 2021 to 31 December 2021), a survey was conducted on job stress and job satisfaction among safety and health managers working at construction sites. The overall job satisfaction of workers in the construction industry was grasped by analyzing the level of correlation and the mutual influence on job stress, job satisfaction, general characteristics, and work-related characteristics. As a result, in terms of work characteristics, it was found that the smaller the working period in the current position, the more positive the job satisfaction was (p < 0.01). In addition, it was found that job satisfaction increased significantly when there was a promotion opportunity (p < 0.001). The construction industry is a job group with high basic job stress and low job satisfaction. In addition, it was evaluated that job stress increased during the pandemic.
