Survey data on teaching strategies and product innovation: A focus on selected university students in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the teaching methods adopted in motivating university students' in Nigeria to engage in product innovation. Emphasis was laid on Covenant University in Nigeria which is the pioneer institution to offer entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. The study adopted quantitative method with a descriptive research design to establish trends related to the objective of the study. Survey was be used as quantitative research method. The population of this study comprised all students in the selected university which was given as 6401 3. A sample size of 377 students was selected using yard's formula. Reliability and validity were confirmed. Data was analyzed with the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).Regression analysis was used as statistical tool of analysis. The field data set is made publicly available to enable critical or a more extensive inquiry.

Project description:BackgroundThe development in teaching dental education toward ever greater digitization has gained enormous momentum in the last 2 years due to the pandemic. However, acceleration is not synonymous with improvement, especially from the learners' point of view. Therefore, the aim of this survey among students of dentistry was to determine which digital learning strategies and which media are preferred.MethodUndergraduate students of clinical semesters (6th to 9th) in dental medicine during at the University of Freiburg participated in an online-survey. Questions were asked about personal learning strategies for and experience with using digital media for private and educational reasons. Furthermore, students were asked which digital learning formats they preferred for different learning phases.ResultsStudents (N=148) are experienced in using digital media for learning. They prefer classical media (such as textbooks and lectures) for acquiring basic theoretical knowledge and mention digital teaching formats more in relation to practical training and complex treatment procedures. 67% prefer learning alone and 90% rate visualizations as helpful for learning. 78% report, that they feel well supported in the learning process by digital media and 83% agree that e-learning offerings are a quality factor for university teaching. 82% state e.g. that the growing range of online content allows a more flexible approach to face to face-teaching, enriches classroom teaching (78%) and helps organize one's own study (79%).ConclusionStudents have a positive attitude towards the use of digital media, especially when it comes to having more time available for practical exercises. They also see an advantage in the fact that through the use of digital media, lectures can be organized more flexibly and also the organization of their studies can be optimized. New digital teaching media should be created based on these results. It is important to consider which digital formats seem suitable for which content during different semesters.

Project description:BackgroundThe use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) by cancer patients is very common and varies between populations. The referenced English literature has no local study from Africa on this subject. This study was conducted to define the prevalence, pattern of use, and factors influencing the use of CAM by cancer patients at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu (UNTH-E), NigeriaMethodFace-to-face interviews using semi-structured questionnaire were used to determine the use of CAM by cancer patients. All consenting cancer patients were interviewed as they presented at the core surgical units of the UNTH- E, from June 2003 to September 2005.Results160 patients were interviewed; 68 (42.5%) were males and 94 (57.5%) were females. Ages ranged from 13-86 years. Breast, urogenital system, gastrointestinal system, and soft tissue cancers predominated. One hundred and four patients (65.0%) have used CAM at some time during their current cancer illness; 56 (35.0%) patients have not used any form of CAM. There were more females than males among the non-CAM users. The use of CAM was not affected by age, marital status, level of education, religious affiliation, or socioeconomic status. The most frequently used CAMs were herbs (51.9%), faith/prayer healing (49.4%), aloe vera (23.1%), Forever Living Products (16.3%), medicinal tea (14.4%), and Blackstone (12.5%). Over 23% of those who used CAM were satisfied, but 68.3% were disappointed. Most users (67.3%) did not see any benefit from the CAM, but 25% could describe some specific benefits. More than 21% of users reported various unwanted effects. While 86.5% of CAM users will use orthodox medicine instead of CAM in the future, 9.6% will use the two together to help each other. Most users (79.8%) will not repeat CAM or recommend its use for cancer. The majority of patients (55.8%) did not mention their use of CAM to their doctors - mostly because the doctor did not ask.ConclusionCAM use is common among cancer patients in Nigeria. Most users do not obtain the expected benefits, and adverse events are not uncommon. Every clinician in the field of oncology should ask his/her patients about the use of CAM; this knowledge will enable them to better counsel the patients.

Project description:The study aimed to investigate the personality traits of students and their preferred teaching methods at the University of Ghana and Huzhou Normal University. The study specifically aimed at identifying personality traits that apply to psychology students, the kinds of teaching methods students preferred, and ascertaining the relationship between personality traits and preferred teaching methods. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to conduct the research. The sample size of two hundred and five (205) students from UG and Huzhou University was used. In this study, the researchers collected the data with the help of structured questionnaires. Research Question 1 and Question 2 will be analyzed using frequencies and percentages. Null hypothesis (There is no relationship between personality traits and teaching methods), Hypothesis 1 (There is a relationship between personality traits and teaching methods) will be analyzed using the Chi-Square. Data that will be collected will be analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (*SPSS). The study found that the conscientiousness personality trait among students at both University of Ghana and Huzhou University is the dominant personality trait. The preferred teaching method of students at both University of Ghana and Huzhou University is the cooperative learning method other than teaching methods. There is a relationship between personality traits and teaching methods: There is no relationship between students (participants') personality traits and teaching methods at both University of Ghana and Huzhou University. It was concluded that most participants possessed conscientiousness personality traits, followed by the agreeableness personality trait and extraversion in UG. For Huzhou University, the conscientiousness personality trait was included by most students, followed by extraversion and agreeableness. It was recommended that the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Ghana and China create, plan and revise their various contents for University Education so that it is geared towards students preferred teaching methods (cooperative method of teaching).
