ABSTRACT:

Introduction

Female sexual dysfunction is a public health problem. Evidence suggests that the population of nursing women is more vulnerable to the phenomenon due to breast feeding. Thus, this protocol was developed to explore the factors that contribute to the development of sexual dysfunction in breastfeeding women.

Methods and analysis

The systematic scoping review will be conducted in six stages, according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols. The databases used will be: PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database, Cumulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PsycINFO, Science Direct, Web of Science and Google Scholar. The searches were made until 1 June 2018, and no retrospective time limit was used. For the organisation of the literature retrieved from the databases, the EndNote Basic manager will be used. The Cochrane model will be used for the data extraction. The analysis of the quantitative data will be carried out through descriptive statistics and the qualitative data will be submitted to thematic analysis. The methodological quality of the empirical studies will be evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool.

Ethics and dissemination

As it will be a review study, without human involvement, there will be no need for ethical approval. The results will be disseminated in a scientific journal, as well as in various media, such as: conferences, seminars, congresses or symposia.

Project description:IntroductionSexual dysfunction in the postpartum period is a very common and relevant clinical problem, which has a significant adverse impact on the health of women. We aim to analyse the efficacy and safety of non-pharmacological interventions for treating sexual dysfunction in postpartum women. Our review aims to provide accurate data for effective policy-making and improve our understanding of the treatment of postpartum sexual dysfunction with non-pharmacological therapies.Methods and analysisThe Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in The Cochrane Library, clinicaltrials.gov, Medline/PubMed, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), LILACS (Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) and Embase will be used to search for articles dated from database inception to July 2019. Randomised controlled clinical trials and large prospective cohorts with control groups using non-pharmacological treatments for sexual dysfunction in postpartum women will be included. Sexual problems are directly linked to sexual dysfunction; thus, the primary outcome will be the absolute number or percentage of sexual issues in each treatment group. The secondary outcomes will be assessed by decreased sexual problems, such as lack of lubrication, decreased libido and difficulty reaching orgasm. Three reviewers will independently select trials and extract data from the original publications. The citations will be screened independently by reviewers in duplicate. The risk of bias of the included studies will be assessed according to the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Data synthesis will be performed using Review Manager (RevMan) software V.5.2.3. In the event that a meta-analysis is possible, we will assess the heterogeneity across the studies by computing the I2 statistic.Ethics and disseminationAs the design of this study includes a review of published data, the need to obtain ethical approval was waived by our institutional review committee. We intend to publish the findings of this systematic review in a peer-reviewed journal.Prospero registration numberCRD42018103077.

Project description:BackgroundSexual dysfunction refers to a chain of psychiatric, individual, and couple's experiences that manifests itself as a dysfunction in sexual desire, sexual arousal, orgasm, and pain during intercourse. The aim of this systematic review will be to assess the sexual dysfunction and determine the relevant factors to sexual dysfunction during pregnancy and postpartum.Methods and analysisAll observational studies, including descriptive, descriptive-analytic, case-control, and cohort studies published between 1990 and 2019, will be included in the study. Review articles, case studies, case reports, letter to editors, pilot studies, and editorial will be excluded from the study. The search will be conducted in the Cochrane Central Register, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, EMBASE, ProQuest, Scopus, WOS, and CINAHL databases. Eligible studies should assess at least one of the sexual dysfunction symptoms in pregnant women or in the first year postpartum. Quality assessment of studies will be performed by two authors independently based on the NOS checklist. This checklist is designed to assess the quality of observational studies. Data will be analyzed using Stata software ver. 11. Considering that the index investigated in the present study will be the level of sexual disorder, standard error will be calculated for each study using binomial distribution. The heterogeneity level will be investigated using Cochran's Q statistic and I2 index in a chi-square test at a significance level of 1.1. Predictable limitations of this study included a small number and unacceptable quality of studies.DiscussionThis systematic review addresses the factors associated with sexual dysfunction during pregnancy and postpartum. Considering the high prevalence of sexual dysfunction among women, the treatment of this problem has been highly sought after by the World Health Organization in recent years. The results of this study can help discover new strategies by introducing factors affecting women's sexual dysfunction, thereby eliminating or diminishing these factors, and play an important role in improving the quality of life of women during pregnancy and postpartum periods.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42018083554.

Project description:IntroductionDifferent aspects are involved in the breastfeeding process that may vary according to the target population, postpartum phase and evaluation scenario. The identification of such instruments, their constructs and applicability in health services will contribute to the understanding of the most relevant aspects and dissemination of tools that can be implemented in the necessary spaces to promote breast feeding. This article describes a review protocol to map the assessment and management instruments applied to breast feeding in the puerperal period existing in the literature.Methods and analysisThis is a protocol of a scoping review that follows the methodological recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). In March 2024, a search will be carried out in the databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online-Medline (PubMed), Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature-Lilacs (BVS), Cochrane Library and Embase (CAPES). Peer-reviewed studies that address instruments for evaluating the breastfeeding process during the puerperium will be included, regardless of year of publication or language. The selection of studies and data extraction will be done by peers and disagreements will be resolved by a third researcher. The selection will be made through the Rayann platform (https://www.rayyan.ai/). Data extraction and synthesis will be performed by pairs, using a semistructured instrument, based on the model available in the JBI manual. The studies will be summarised according to the postpartum period in which the instrument was used (immediate, remote or late postpartum) and their constructs, domains and contexts of utilisation will be identified.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval is not necessary for this scoping review. The results of the review will be shared through publications in peer-reviewed journals, at relevant scientific conferences and seminars and meetings with maternal and child healthcare providers.Study registrationThis study was registered with Open Science Framework registry (osf.io/f4hz8) on 27 April 2023.
