Regulatory performance dataset constructed from U.S. soil jurisdictions based on the top 100 concerned pollutants.

ABSTRACT: The regulatory performance dataset based on the standard-value-based comparison tool was summarized in this Data in Brief. The dataset includes the identified top 100 concerned soil pollutants, the computed C₂-C₅ regulatory performance scores for each state soil jurisdiction, and the reference sources of the soil regulatory guidance values (RGVs). A total of 20 elements, seven cyanides, five halogenated methanes, seven chloroethanes and choroethenes, 12 benzenes, eight phenols, eight carcinogenic PAHs, eight noncarcinogenic PAHs, nine historically used pesticides, 12 currently used pesticides, and nine miscellaneous pollutants were selected as the top 100 concerned pollutants. Four comparison scores simulated from state soil regulations can be directly applied and compared with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to quantify the regulatory performance.

Dataset of 100-year flood susceptibility maps for the continental U.S. derived with a geomorphic method.

Project description:Efficient strategies for preparing communities to protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate flood hazard are often hampered by the lack of information about the position and extent of flood-prone areas. Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses allow to obtain detailed flood hazard maps, but are a computationally intensive exercise requiring a significant amount of input data, which are rarely available both in developing and developed countries. As a consequence, even in data-rich environments, official flood hazard graduations are often affected by extensive gaps. In the U.S., for instance, the detailed floodplain delineation produced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is incomplete, with many counties having no floodplain mapping at all. In this article we present a mapping dataset containing 100-year flood susceptibility maps for the continental U.S. with a 90 m resolution. They have been obtained performing a linear binary classification based on the Geomorphic Flood Index (GFI). To the best knowledge of the authors, there are no available flood-prone areas maps for the entire continental U.S. with resolution lower that 30׳׳×30׳׳ (approximatively 1 km at the equator).

A novel dataset on horizontal property rights in 126 jurisdictions.

Project description:The law and the economy are deeply influenced by horizontal property rights, which are the rules regulating legal direct and indirect takings between private parties. To foster research on the determinants and impact of these institutions, we illustrate here a novel data set partially employed in (Dari-Mattiacci, Giuseppe, Carmine Guerriero, 2015; Dari-Mattiacci, Giuseppe, Carmine Guerriero, Zhenxing Huang, 2016) [3], [4], and (Guerriero Carmine, 2016) [6] and describing the acquisition of ownership through adverse possession of personal and real property and the use of government takings to transfer real property from a private party to another private party in 126 jurisdictions. These data are based on the laws and judicial decisions prevailing in each jurisdiction between 1981 and 2011.

Top 100 cited noninvasive neuromodulation clinical trials.

Project description:IntroductionIntroduction: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) are noninvasive neuromodulation techniques used as therapeutic and research tools for several neuropsychiatric conditions. Given the exponential scientific growth of this field, we aimed to systematically review the most cited clinical trials using TMS or tDCS.Areas coveredA de-novo keyword search strategy identified and characterized the 100 most-cited trials. Total citation count for the most cited trials was 13,204. Articles were published between 2008 and 2014 in 50 different journals with a median impact factor of 6.52 (IQR 3.37). Almost half of the top cited papers were investigating mechanisms of action in healthy subjects. Most studies were feasibility trials and only five were pivotal trials, including the ones used for recent FDA approval. Seven articles were interlinked with another article by at least 25 citations and eight authors had collaborated with at least one other author.Expert opinionAlthough there has been a significant increase in interest for rTMS and tDCS, most of the cited clinical trials are still small feasibility studies, what reinforced the need for more robust clinical trials (larger samples sizes and effects sizes) to better define clinical effectiveness.

Antibiotics: A Bibliometric Analysis of Top 100 Classics.

Project description:Citation frequencies represent the most significant contributions in any respective field. This bibliometric analysis aimed to identify and analyze the 100 most-cited publications in the field of antibiotics and to highlight the trends of research in this field. "All databases" of Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science was used to identify and analyze the 100 publications. The articles were then cross-matched with Scopus and Google Scholar. The frequency of citation ranged from 940 to 11,051 for the Web of Science, 1053 to 10,740 for Scopus, and 1162 to 20,041 for Google Scholar. A total of 513 authors made contributions to the ranked list, and Robert E.W. Hancock contributed in six articles, which made it to the ranked list. Sixty-six scientific contributions originated from the United States of America. Five publications were linked to the University of Manitoba, Canada, that was identified as the educational organization, made the most contributions (n = 5). According to the methodological design, 26 of the most cited works were review-type closely followed by 23 expert opinions/perspectives. Eight articles were published in Nature journal, making it the journal with the most scientific contribution in this field. Correlation analysis between the publication age and citation frequency was found statistically significant (p = 0.012).

100 top-cited scientific papers in limb prosthetics.

Project description:Research has tremendously contributed to the developments in both practical and fundamental aspects of limb prosthetics. These advancements are reflected in scientific articles, particularly in the most cited papers. This article aimed to identify the 100 top-cited articles in the field of limb prosthetics and to investigate their main characteristics. Articles related to the field of limb prosthetics and published in the Web of Knowledge database of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) from the period of 1980 to 2012. The 100 most cited articles in limb prosthetics were selected based on the citation index report. All types of articles except for proceedings and letters were included in the study. The study design and level of evidence were determined using Sackett's initial rules of evidence. The level of evidence was categorized either as a systematic review or meta-analysis, randomized controlled trial, cohort study, case-control study, case series, expert opinion, or design and development. The top cited articles in prosthetics were published from 1980 to 2012 with a citation range of 11 to 90 times since publication. The mean citation rate was 24.43 (SD 16.7) times. Eighty-four percent of the articles were original publications and were most commonly prospective (76%) and case series studies (67%) that used human subjects (96%) providing level 4 evidence. Among the various fields, rehabilitation (47%), orthopedics (29%), and sport sciences (28%) were the most common fields of study. The study established that studies conducted in North America and were written in English had the highest citations. Top cited articles primarily dealt with lower limb prosthetics, specifically, on transtibial and transradial prosthetic limbs. Majority of the articles were experimental studies.

Adverse childhood experiences and adult alcohol use during pregnancy - 41 U.S. jurisdictions, 2019-2023.

Project description:IntroductionAdverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are preventable, potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. Alcohol use during pregnancy can result in miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, and a range of lifelong behavioral, intellectual, and physical disabilities in the child. Limited research has examined the relationship between ACEs and alcohol use in pregnancy; available studies might not reflect current trends in this relationship.MethodsUsing 2019-2023 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data from 41 U.S. jurisdictions, the prevalence of self-reported current alcohol use among pregnant persons aged 18-49 years (N = 2371) was estimated by ACEs and selected characteristics. We calculated unadjusted and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) for the relationship between ACEs and alcohol use during pregnancy.ResultsThe prevalence of current alcohol use was 16.2 % (95 % CI = 11.5-20.9) among pregnant persons who reported experiencing four or more ACEs, and 8.6 % (95 % CI = 5.7-11.5) among those who reported no ACEs. When adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, pregnant persons who reported four or more ACEs were more likely to report current alcohol use compared to those who reported no ACEs (aPR = 1.8, 95 % CI = 1.1-2.9). Individually, pregnant persons who experienced emotional abuse (aPR = 1.9, 95 % CI = 1.3-2.7) and witnessed intimate partner violence (aPR = 1.6, 95 % CI = 1.1-2.4) were more likely to use alcohol during pregnancy compared to pregnant persons who did not report experiencing these ACEs.ConclusionsHigher ACE exposure was associated with alcohol use during pregnancy. Steps can be taken to mitigate their potential harms. Clinical and community-level interventions can address ACEs, which might reduce alcohol use during pregnancy.

The 100 Top-Cited Studies About Pain and Depression.

Project description:With the estimated high prevalence in the population, the two symptoms of pain and depression threaten the well-being of millions worldwide. Researches of the two symptoms increased year by year. Top-cited studies will help to understand the achievement and guide researchers toward the direction of the research field. However, it is unclear for researches in the field of pain and depression. In this paper, we reviewed the bibliometric characteristics of the top-cited papers about pain and depression. We will review the evidence of authorship, country of origin, institution, journal, study type, and publication year for the 100 top-cited studies on pain and depression based on the Web of Science Core collection. We also highlight studies with the highest cited times. Our study concluded that pain and depression were correlated, which may share common biological pathways.

Analysis of Mpox by Occupation and Industry in Seven U.S. Jurisdictions, May 2022-March 2023.

Project description:During responses to outbreaks, the collection and analysis of data on employed case patients' industry and occupation are necessary to better understand the relationship between work and health outcomes. The occurrence of mpox by occupation and industry has not previously been assessed in the context of the 2022 outbreak. We analyzed employment data from 2548 mpox cases reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from surveillance systems in seven U.S. jurisdictions and population-based reference data on employment patterns from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to describe the differential proportionate distribution of cases across occupation and industry groups using the proportionate morbidity ratio. In gender-specific analyses, we found that men employed in certain occupations and industries had a higher relative risk of mpox than others. While occupational transmission cannot be ruled out, it is more likely that individuals with personal and behavioral risk factors for mpox were more likely to work in these occupations and industries. This analysis provides an example of collecting and analyzing occupation and industry data in case reports to understand possible differences in risk by occupation and industry in infectious disease outbreak investigation and help inform resource allocation, messaging, and response.
