Hypoxia-induced pulmonary vasoconstriction of intra-acinar arteries is impaired in NADPH oxidase 4 gene-deficient mice.


ABSTRACT: We show that genetic deficiency of the reactive oxygen species generating enzyme NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) impairs hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction in small (25-40 µm) intra-acinar, but not pre-acinar, arteries in murine precision cut lung slices. These data suggest an involvement of NOX4 in ventilation-perfusion matching at the acinar level.
