Regular physical activity and mammographic density: a cohort study.

ABSTRACT:

Purpose

Physical activity is a modifiable lifestyle risk factor in prevention of breast cancer. Mammographic density (MD) is a strong risk factor for breast cancer. We investigate the association of regular physical activity with MD.

Methods

For 5,703 women who participated in the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health cohort (1993-1997) and attended mammographic screening in Copenhagen (1993-2001), MD was assessed at the first screening after cohort entry. MD was defined as a binary measure equivalent to Breast Imaging Report and Data System (BI-RADS) to either mixed/dense or fatty.
