Ala55Val and 45 basepair (bp) insertion/deletion (I/D) of UCP2 gene polymorphisms cause a decrease in resting energy expenditure, decreasing fatty acid oxidation and influencing mRNA transcription and stability, thereby increasing the risk of obesity.
