<i>Kodamaea ohmeri</i> is a symbiont of the small hive beetle (SHB), which is a scavenger of honey bee colonies. The SHB causes absconding of the economically important honey bee (<i>Apis mellifera</i>) and deposits <i>K. ohmeri</i> in the honeycomb.
