Three new species of the genus Coddingtonia from Asia (Araneae, Theridiosomatidae).

ABSTRACT: The current paper expands knowledge of the genus Coddingtonia Miller, Griswold & Yin, 2009. Based on morphological characters and molecular data, three species are documented as new to science: C. erhuan Feng & Lin, sp. nov. (♀) from China, C. lizu Feng & Lin, sp. nov. (♀) from China, and C. huifengi Feng & Lin, sp. nov. (♂♀) from Indonesia. The type of C. euryopoides Miller, Griswold & Yin, 2009 is also reexamined. DNA sequences (COI), detailed illustrations of habitus, male palp and epigyne are provided for these four species, as well as a key and a distribution map for Coddingtonia species.

Project description:Three new species of the genus Plato from caves in the states of Pará and Minas Gerais, Brazil, are described. P. novalimasp. n., from Minas Gerais, is the first record of the genus in the southeastern region of Brazil. P. ferriferussp. n. and P. striatussp. n., from Carajás, Pará, north of Brazil, are also described. The former is an extremely abundant species, whereas the latter has only one known male specimen. Cuacubagen. n. is proposed and represented by two new species, C. marianasp. n. (type species) and C. morrodopilarsp. n., both from the state of Minas Gerais. Morphology of genitalia in Cuacubagen. n. is similar to other Theridiosomatidae genera and is herein discussed. None of the proposed species presents troglomorphic adaptations. They are widespread, abundant inside caves in different and large karst areas, and each genus prefers different lithologies.

Nine more new species from Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan and Yunnan Provinces of southern China are described: Baalzebub rastrariussp. n.,Baalzebub youyiensissp. n., Karstia nitidasp. n., Karstia prolatasp. n.,Ogulnius hapalussp. n., Theridiosoma plumariasp. n., Theridiosoma triumphalissp. n., Theridiosoma vimineumsp. n., Zoma fasciasp. n. The type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

A review of the spider genus Chthonopes (Araneae, Theridiosomatidae), with descriptions of two new species from China.

Project description:The genus Chthonopes Wunderlich, 2011 is reviewed in this paper. The type species Chthonopesjaegeri Wunderlich, 2011 was illustrated based on new material from the type locality and the new distribution records (Bolikhamsay and Ban Kouanphavang Khammouane, Laos). Two new species are described from Yunnan, China: C.bifidum Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♂♀) and C.jimudeng Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♀). A key is provided for the genus, as well as species diagnoses, and a distribution map for all five species of Chthonopes.

Project description:The spider genus Sinoalaria Zhao & Li, 2014 is redefined and reviewed. A total of ten species are studied, including four new species: S.chi Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♂♀), S.shenhei Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♀), S.shuidi Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♀), S.xiaotu Yu & Lin, sp. nov. (♂♀). Two new combinations are proposed: Sinoalarianitida (Zhao & Li, 2012), comb. nov. and S.prolata (Zhao & Li, 2012), comb. nov., both transferred from Karstia Chen, 2010. The material of six known species were re-examined and photographed, including the type species, S.chengguanensis (Zhao & Li, 2012). A key is provided for all species of the genus, as well as diagnoses, illustrations, and a distribution map.

Project description:This paper provides descriptions of two new theridiosomatid species, Theridiosomanigrivirgatum sp. nov. and Sennintanikawai gen. nov., sp. nov. from the Ryukyu Islands, southwest Japan, with photographs and illustrations of both sexes. Sennin gen. nov. is a troglophilic genus composed of two species, S.tanikawai sp. nov. (Iriomote Island, Japan) and S.coddingtoni (Zhu, Zhang & Chen, 2001), comb. nov. (southern China). Zomadibaiyin Miller, Griswold & Yin, 2009, which recently joined the Japanese fauna, was morphologically reexamined based on specimens from the Ryukyus, and taxonomic features of Zoma males were reassessed. A distributional map of theridiosomatid spiders in the Ryukyus is also provided, including T.dissimulatum Suzuki, Serita & Hiramatsu, 2020, and T.alboannulatum Suzuki, Serita & Hiramatsu, 2020 with their habitat types, web morphology, and web-building behavior in detail.
