The impact of lipotoxicity on the development of lung fibrosis is unclear. Saturated fatty acids, such as palmitic acid (PA), activate endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a cellular stress response associated with the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
