Swine stocks are endemically infected with the major porcine pathogen <i>Streptococcus</i> (<i>S.</i>) <i>suis</i>. The factors governing the transition from colonizing <i>S. suis</i> residing in the tonsils and the exacerbation of disease have not yet been elucidated.
