Recurrent painful ophthalmoplegic neuropathy (RPON) replaced the term 'ophthalmoplegic migraine' as the condition behaves more like an inflammatory cranial neuropathy than a primary headache disorder. RPON may be associated with cranial nerve thickening on MR imaging and persistent oculomotor paresis.
