The self-assembly of amyloid β (Aβ) proteins into oligomers is the major pathogenic event leading to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Typical in vitro experiments require high protein concentrations, whereas the physiological concentration of Aβ is in the picomolar to low nanomolar range.
