Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) family gene polymorphisms and the risk of multiple sclerosis: systematic review and meta-analysis.

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND:Several studies have reported the association between polymorphisms in Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) gene family and risk of Multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the results have been inconsistent and inconclusive. To resolve this issue, here we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the MMP-91562 C/T (rs3918242), MMP-3 (- 1612 5A/6A), and MMP-2 (- 1306 C/T) polymorphisms and susceptibility to MS.
