Psychometric properties of the Chinese Version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale for people living with HIV.

ABSTRACT: Objective
The study was conducted to validate the reliability and factor structure of the Chinese version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS-CH) for people living with HIV (PLWH).Methods
From May 2017 to November 2017, a cross-sectional survey was performed in two AIDS inpatient departments located in two cities in Hunan, China. Reliability was evaluated by examining the internal consistency and split-half reliability of the items. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assess the factor structure of the RHDS-CH, and the model was revised according to the modification index.Results
Cronbach's α for the RHDS-CH was 0.912, and the split-half reliability of the total scale was 0.831. Initially, the results of the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the sample did not fit this four-factor model and its 23 items well (χ 2/df = 3, GFI =0.772, TLI = 0.823, CFI = 0.844, RMSEA = 0.100). To improve the model fit indices, we performed model modification with the guidance of modification indices. Finally, the model fit indices showed an acceptable fit to the data (χ 2/df = 2.141, GFI = 0.844, TLI = 0.899, CFI = 0.915, RMSEA = 0.075). Coefficients of corrected item-total correlation of the RHDS-CH ranged from 0.435 to 0.726.Conclusion
This study is the first to examine the psychometric properties of the RHDS-CH for PLWH. Our findings showed good reliability and confirmed the four-factor structure model for PLWH.

Project description:BackgroundThe phenomenon of quiet quitting has attracted considerable attention within the nursing community. Elevated quiet quitting levels can weaken the work environment, reducing healthcare efficiency and quality. However, appropriate assessment tools to measure this phenomenon remain unavailable in China. This study aimed to translate the Quiet Quitting Scale into Chinese and evaluate its psychometric properties.MethodsThe Brislin translation model was used to translate the Quiet Quitting Scale into Chinese. A total of 420 nurses were recruited from hospitals in Central China. Item analysis was conducted using the Critical Rate, correlation coefficient, and internal consistency methods. Reliability was evaluated through internal consistency, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability. The content validity of the Chinese version was assessed using the Delphi method. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed to evaluate the construct validity of the Chinese version. Data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and Mplus 8.0 software.ResultsThe Chinese version of the Quiet Quitting Scale demonstrated robust content validity (S-CVI/Ave: 0.989, CVR:0.800-1.000). The three-factors model was obtained by using exploratory factor analysis, explaining 77.93%, and confirmatory factor analysis supported acceptable construct validity (χ2/df = 2.224, CFI = 0.963, TLI = 0.945, RMSEA = 0.077). Additionally, the scale demonstrated a Cronbach's α of 0.856, split-half reliability was 0.921, test-retest reliability was 0.851, and McDonald's Omega was 0.887.ConclusionsThe Chinese version of the Quiet Quitting Scale (QQS) demonstrated strong reliability and validity, making it a valuable tool for assessing quiet quitting behaviors among nurses in both clinical and managerial contexts. This scale can help identify at-risk individuals and support the development of targeted interventions aimed at improving work quality and efficiency. Future research should assess the scale's applicability across various healthcare settings and its long-term impact.

Project description:BackgroundThe Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS)-Parent Form shows satisfactory reliability and validity to assess the readiness of parents to take care of their children discharged from hospitals in Western countries. However, the reliability and validity of this instrument has not been evaluated in Chinese populations.ObjectivesEvaluate the psychometric features of the RHDS-Parent Form among Chinese parents of preterm infants.MethodsThe RHDS-Parent Form was translated into a Chinese version following an international instrument translation guideline. A total of 168 parents with preterm infants were recruited from the neonatal intensive care units of two tertiary-level hospitals in China. The internal consistency of this measure was assessed using the Cronbach's α coefficient; confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the construct validity; and Pearson correlation coefficient was used to report the convergent validity.ResultsThe Chinese version of RHDS (C-RHDS)-Parent Form included 22 items with 4 subscales, accounting for 56.71% of the total variance. The C-RHDS-Parent Form and its subscales showed good reliability (Cronbach's α values 0.78-0.92). This measure and its subscales showed positive correlations with the score of Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale.ConclusionThe factor structure of C-RHDS-Parent Form is partially consistent with the original English version. Future studies are needed to explore the factors within this measure before it is widely used in Chinese clinical care settings.

Project description:IntroductionThe need for privacy is a high-order psychological need of human, which is closely related to human mental health problems in the digital age. The Need for Privacy Scale (NFP-S) is a reliable measure of need for privacy. This study tested its psychometric characteristics among Chinese populations.MethodsFirstly, we modified and translated the NFP-S into Chinese version (NFP-SC). Subsequently, we invited 15 participants to complete pre testing of the NFP-SC and determined the final version. Next, we collected questionnaire data from 1130 participants for confirmatory factor analysis to confirm factor structure and validate convergent validity.ResultsThe results showed that the bifactor Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (bifactor-ESEM) could better reflect the potential structure of NFP-SC, which included one general factor of need for privacy and three specific factors which were the informational need for privacy, the psychological need for privacy, and the physical need for privacy. Based on the bifactor-ESEM model, the measurement invariance of NFP-SC was demonstrated across gender groups. The general factor and specific factor of NFP-SC showed good reliability with high McDonald's coefficient omega. Convergent validity was tested by verifying the relationship between NFP-SC and four covariates.ConclusionsOur study results showed that NFP-SC exhibited satisfactory psychometric properties in the Chinese context, meaning that it could be applied for future studies on investigating need for privacy in Chinese populations. Future research could build panel data by gathering data from different periods, and supplement the test-retest reliability of NFP-S to improve its application effect.

Project description:BackgroundThe evaluation of the surgical readiness of patients plays an important role in clinical care. Preoperative readiness assessment is needed to identify the inadequacy among surgical patients, which provides guide for interventions to improve patients' preoperative readiness. However, there is a paucity of high-level, quality tool that evaluate surgical readiness of patients in China. The purpose of this study is to translate the Preoperative Assessment of Readiness Tool (PART) into Chinese and determine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version in the population of surgical patients.MethodsUsing a standard translation-backward method, the original English version of PART was translated into Chinese. A convenient sampling of 210 surgical patients was recruited from 6 hospitals in Zhejiang Province to test the psychometric properties of this scale including internal consistency, split-half reliability, content validity, structure validity, and floor/ceiling effect.ResultsA total of 194 patients (92%) completed questionnaires. The Chinese version of PART achieved Cronbach's alphas 0.948 and McDonald's omega coefficient 0.947, respectively, for the full scale. The estimated odd-even split-half reliability was 0.959. The scale-level content validity index was 0.867, and the items content validity index ranged from 0.83 to 1.0.The output of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed a two-factor model (χ2 = 510.96; df = 86; p < 0.001; root mean square error approximation = 0.08) with no floor/ceiling effect.ConclusionThe Chinese version of PART demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity among surgical patients. It can be used to evaluate patients' preoperative preparation and help health professionals provide proper preoperative support.

Project description:ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Trait Gratitude to Nature Scale (TGNS) for Chinese college students.MethodsThe original English version of the TGNS was translated into Chinese. Subsequently, two samples consisting of 1,131 Chinese university students from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was recruited through online surveys to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the TGNS, including the discrimination, construct validity, criterion validity, reliability and gender invariance.ResultsThe Chinese version of the TGNS showed good psychometric properties. The item-total correlation coefficients of the scale ranged from 0.813 to 0.909. Exploratory factor analysis using data from Sample 1 (n = 617) demonstrated that the Chinese version of the TGNS has one factor. The confirmatory factor analysis using data from Sample 2 (n = 514) showed that the Chinese version of the TGNS has appropriate construct validity (χ2/df = 4.157, RMSEA = 0.078, TLI = 0.943 and CFI = 0.967). The significant correlation between the Chinese version of the TGNS and all the other criterion scale scores (p < 0.001) indicated that the Chinese version of the TGNS displays good criterion validity. The test-retest reliability was 0.914, using the sub-sample of Sample 2 (n = 127). The results of gender invariance test indicated that the Chinese version of the TGNS has entire equivalence between the two genders.ConclusionThe Chinese version of the TGNS has satisfactory psychometric properties in the Chinese cultural context and can be used as s a reliable and valid instrument to assess trait gratitude to nature.

Project description:ObjectiveCancer predisposition perception refers to the subjective estimation of the likelihood of being diagnosed with cancer in the future. It affects people's behavior concerning cancer screening and prevention. At present, there is no available tool to evaluate cancer predisposition perception. The aim of this study was to translate the cancer predisposition perception scale into simplified Chinese (C-CPPS), and then test its psychometric properties among Chinese patients.MethodsIn phase I, the CPPS was translated into Chinese, and validated by an expert panel. In phase II, data on reliability and validity was evaluated in terms of construct validity, criterion validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and item-total correlations, with a convenience sample of 208 patients recruited from the colorectal cancer surgical ward.ResultsThe C-CPPS had desirable validity and reliability. The scale-level content validity index was 0.96. Exploratory factor analysis indicated that the six-factor structure of the C-CPPS was good fit to the data. Correlation between the C-CPPS and the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire was statistically significant. Cronbach's α for the entire scale was 0.90 and 0.71-0.95 for five of the six subscales. Item-total correlations ranged from 0.309 to 0.775, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.97.ConclusionsThe C-CPPS appears to be culturally appropriate, reliable, and valid for assessing cancer predisposition perception among patients with colorectal cancer in China.

Project description:BackgroundInterventions for people with chronic illness have increasingly got involvement and partnership with family members in China and worldwide. The patient-family interactions in chronic illness care can greatly influence not only family dyadic relationship or collaboration in caregiving but also both patient's and caregiver's health and well-being. To date, very few instruments have been developed to measure the family dyadic relationship; and none has been found in Chinese language. This study aimed to translate the original English Dyadic Relationship Scales (DRS), including DRS-patient and DRS-caregiver, into simplified Chinese language (DRS-C) and examine their psychometric properties in Chinese people with hypertension in a rural community.MethodsThe Brislin's model of translation was adopted for translation. Face and content validity and semantic equivalence of the translated Chinese version of the two DRS-patient and DRS-caregiver scales were examined. A sample of 132 adults with hypertension and their family caregivers were recruited to test the psychometric properties of the DRS-C scales.ResultsThe DRS-C scales indicated very satisfactory face validity with 10 family dyads in hypertension care, content validity rated by five experts (Item CVI = 0.8-1.0; Scale CVI = 0.98) and semantic equivalence rated by 22 panel members (i.e., all items were rated as 3 = relevant or 4 = very relevant by > 18 members). A well-fitting model of DRS-C-patient was identified with χ2/df = 1.47, p = 0.04, RMSEA = 0.06, GFI = 0.941, CFI = 0.961, TLI = 0.947, and SRMR = 0.019. A well-fitting model of DRS-C-caregiver was identified with χ2/df = 1.340, p = 0.092, RMSEA = 0.039, GFI = 0.940, CFI = 0.975, TLI = 0.965, and SRMR = 0.014. The Chinese DRS-patient and DRS-caregiver had satisfactory internal consistency with Cronbach's α coefficients of 0.82 and 0.83, respectively, and test-retest reliabilities with intra-correlation coefficients of 0.97 and 0.96, respectively. The convergent validities of the Chinese versions of the DRS-patient and DRS-caregiver were very satisfactory with the self-efficacy subscale of Hypertension Self-Care Profile, and Zarit Burden Interview, respectively (Pearson's r = - 0.70 and 0.79; both p < 0.001). Significant differences on mean scores of the Chinese versions of the DRS-patient (t = - 8.10, p < 0.001) and the DRS-caregiver (t = - 9.15, p < 0.001), between the groups of adults with hypertension and normal blood pressure counterparts.ConclusionBoth Chinese versions of the DRS-patient and DRS-caregiver have sound psychometric properties and similar factor structure to the original English version. The Chinese versions can be valid measures of family dyadic relationship among Chinese adults with hypertension.

Project description:This study performed a cross-cultural validation of the Chinese version of the 10-item Social Provisions Scale (C-SPS-10) in Chinese populations. Study 1 examined the factor structure, internal reliability, discrimination, criterion validity, and network structure of C-SPS-10 by utilizing a sample of disaster victims in the 2021 Henan floods. Study 2 substantiated the findings of Study 1 in a general population sample. Measurement invariances between populations and between sexes in terms of the C-SPS-10 were also tested using the network approach. Study 3 used three samples to examine the test-retest reliability of the C-SPS-10 over three different time periods. The general results showed that the C-SPS-10 has excellent factor structure, internal reliability, discrimination, and criterion validity. The C-SPS-10 was confirmed to have good psychometric properties. Although the full scale functions well, problems may exist at a domain level. Project description:Readiness to practice nursing is essential for nursing students to ensure that they are conscientious, have a sense of responsibility, and are rational in performing their clinical practice. This study tested the psychometric properties of the "Nursing Practice Readiness Scale" Arabic version (NPRS-A) to assess Saudi nursing students' readiness to practice nursing in clinical settings. This study used a methodological design to examine the psychometric properties of the NPRS-A among 373 nursing students in Saudi Arabia. The findings provide evidence of the NPRS-A's good content validity. The PCA revealed five distinct components with a "cumulative variance explained" of 69.2%. The test of difference on the nursing practice preparedness between students from different levels showed that students in the 2nd year were less prepared than junior and senior nursing students. The correlation test showed that a higher GPA and higher self-reported readiness are more ready to practice nursing in clinical settings. The research showed an overall Cronbach's alpha of 0.957. The establishment of the NPRS-A is significant, not only in Saudi Arabia but other Arabic-speaking countries. Nurse educators and nursing education policymakers can use this version to assess nursing students' learning needs to be prepared to practice nursing.

Project description:BackgroundIn recent years, resilience has received extensive attention in psychology. The 14-Item Resilience Scale (RS-14) has been developed as a newer and shorter version of the resilience scale and has been applied in Western countries. In Eastern cultures, however, and particularly among Chinese populations, its factor structure remains unverified. The purpose of this study is to realize the first evaluation of the psychometric characteristics of the Chinese version of the RS-14 in young adults from Mainland China.MethodsThe resilience scale, Connor-Davidson resilience scale, general health questionnaire 12, perceived stress scale 14, general self-efficacy scale and meaning in life questionnaire were used to investigate 1010 undergraduates (321 male college students, 689 female college students, aged 17-25 years; mean age = 20.27; SD = 1.572). We evaluated the item quality, latent structure, reliability, criterion validity and differential item functioning on the gender variable.ResultsThrough the analysis methods of exploratory and confirmatory factor-analytic, the original single-factor model has been proven to be applicable within the Chinese population. Both an adequate construct validity and an excellent degree of reliability were reflected in the data. In addition, test-retest evinced good stability. The current study interrogates associations with external criteria, as well as providing evidence in support of the RS-14.ConclusionTo sum up, this study showed that the RS-14 is a reliable assessment for measuring resilience in China, and provides an alternative to the original scale.
