Seamounts are ubiquitous global features often characterized by biological hotspots of diversity, biomass, and abundance, though the mechanisms responsible are poorly understood. One controversial explanation suggests seamount-induced chlorophyll enhancements (SICE) subsidize seamount ecosystems.
