Revision of Nagiella Munroe (Lepidoptera, Crambidae), with the description of a new species from China.

ABSTRACT: The genus Nagiella was studied using morphological and DNA barcode data. Nagiella bispina sp. nov. is described as a new species, and N. hortulatoides Munroe is recorded in China for the first time. The diagnosis of this genus is revised, and the genitalia description of N. quadrimaculalis (Kollar and Redtenbacher) and N. inferior (Hampson) are given in English for the first time. Nosophora incomitata (Swinhoe) stat. rev. is removed from the synonym of N. quadrimaculalis. Photographs of the habitus and genitalia as well as COI DNA Barcode data of these four species are provided.

The geographical distribution patterns of Chrysoteuchia Hubner in China and description of a new species (Lepidoptera, Crambidae).

Project description:The geographical distribution patterns of Chrysoteuchia Hübner in China are analysed with MaxEnt and ArcGIS based on known localities and nineteen environmental variables. The results suggest that southeastern China is a highly suitable area, and Bio11 (mean temperature of the coldest quarter), Bio12 (annual precipitation) and Bio18 (precipitation of the warmest quarter) are revealed to be the main variables affecting the present distribution patterns. Among them, Bio18 is the strongest predictor with a 24.3% contribution. Furthermore, a new species from Tibet is added to the genus, Chrysoteuchialandryi sp. nov., and the male of C.curvicavus is described for the first time. Images of adults and their genitalia are illustrated, and two maps showing the geographical distribution patterns of Chrysoteuchia in China are provided.

First record of the genus Tetracona Meyrick (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) from China, with description of a new species.

Project description:The genus Tetracona has two species with an Australian distribution. The present study aims to record the genus from China for the first time and to add a third species, T. multispina Jie & Li, sp. nov. to the genus. The new species can be distinguished from the congeners by the antemedial line connecting the postmedial line near the dorsum in the hindwing, and the phallus with a cluster of spine-like cornuti in the male genitalia. Images of the habitus, tympanal organs and male genitalia are provided for the new species.

A new species of Patania from the Hainan Island, China (Lepidoptera, Crambidae).

Project description:Patania clava sp. n. is described from the Diaoluo Mountain of Hainan Island, China. The new species is distinguished from its most similar congener, Patania iopasalis (Walker, 1859), by the following features: wingspan 33.0-35.0 mm (vs. 21.0-30.0 mm), ventral cilia of the male antenna as long as the diameter of flagellomere (vs. 1/4), the thick finger-like gnathos (vs. the short broad sheet-like), a long thick needle-like cornutus stretching out from (vs. embedded in) a cluster of spicular cornuti near apex. Images of adult and genitalia of the new species are provided.

A new species of Metaeuchromius (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) from the Tibetan glacier area of China.

Project description:Metaeuchromiusglacialis Li, sp. n. is described from the Tibetan glacier area of China. The new species is similar to Metaeuchromiuscirce Bleszynski by the distal projection of costa exceeding the apex of valva, and the phallus with strong spine-like cornuti in the male genitalia. Notes on Glaucocharis (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) from China, with descriptions of two new species.

Project description:Two new species belonging to the genus Glaucocharis Meyrick, 1938 are described from southwest China: Glaucocharissperlingi sp. n. and G.nussi sp. n. The female of G.castaneus Song & Chen, 2002 is described for the first time. The geographical distribution of the genus in China is analysed. The precipitation of the warmest quarter is revealed to be the strongest predictor affecting the present distribution pattern of the genus. A map showing the distribution of the known Chinese localities of Glaucocharis is provided.

A revision of the genus Ecpyrrhorrhoe Hubner, 1825 from China based on morphology and molecular data, with descriptions of five new species (Lepidoptera, Crambidae, Pyraustinae).

Project description:The genus Ecpyrrhorrhoe Hübner, 1825 is revised. Most type materials were examined, and a preliminary phylogeny is presented based on a combined dataset of COI, 16S rRNA, 28S rRNA and EF-1α gene regions. The tree topology and morphological characters suggest that Paliga Moore, 1886 is a new synonym of Ecpyrrhorrhoe, and Yezobotys Munroe & Mutuura, 1969 is restored as a valid genus. According to the morphological evidence and tree topology, 17 species are recorded, including five new species described from China: E.allochroa Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov., E.rosisquama Xiang & Zhang, sp. nov., E.exigistria Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov., E.brevis Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov. and E.longispinalis Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov. Seven new combinations are created, E.damastesalis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov., E.minnehaha (Pryer, 1877), comb. nov., E.obliquata (Moore, 1888), comb. nov., E.rufipicta (Butler, 1880), comb. nov., E.fimbriata (Moore, 1886), comb. nov., E.machoeralis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov., and E.rubellalis (Snellen, 1890), comb. nov., as well as eight new synonyms, namely Leucocraspedaauratalis Warren, 1895, syn. nov., Pioneaschenklingi Strand, 1918, syn. nov., Paligarubicundalis Warren, 1896, syn. nov., E.angustivalvaris Gao, Zhang & Wang, 2013, syn. nov., Pyraustapygmaealis South, 1901, syn. nov., E.multispinalis Gao, Zhang &Wang, 2013, syn. nov., E.aduncis Gao, Zhang & Wang, 2013, syn. nov., and E.ruidispinalis Zhang, Li & Wang, 2004, syn. nov. All adults and their genital structures are illustrated and an identification key based on adult external morphology and genitalia is provided.
