Dataset on the green consumption behaviour amongst Malaysian consumers.

ABSTRACT: This dataset contains information of 375 respondents on green consumption behaviour. The questionnaire was developed using Theory of Planned Behaviour as the foundation. The variables available in the dataset are Environmental Concern (EC), Social Influence (SI), Perceived behavioural control (PBC), Consumer novelty seeking (CNS) and Green consumption behaviour (GC). In addition to the variables related to green consumption, the dataset also includes demographic and media preference information of the respondents. The data was collected via self-administered questionnaire in seven major cities in Klang Valley, namely Shah Alam, Bangsar, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Puchong, Serdang and Putrajaya. The dataset can have an important role for research in consumer behaviour towards developing green consumers.

Dataset on determinants of intention and investment behaviour amongst young Indonesian millennials.

Project description:The dataset examines three factors (i.e. financial literacy, self-control, peer-influence) that influence investment behaviour amongst young Indonesian millennials. Using a non-probability sampling technique, a total of 265 young millennials attending Investment Gallery seminar and workshop events in Jakarta, Indonesia completed an investment behaviour survey. The reflective measurement was performed using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) to the screened data from the survey (N = 213). The measurement includes the evaluation of outer loading, internal reliability, and convergent reliability. The final equation model was evaluated and estimated using SmartPLS v.3.3.2 program. The dataset is beneficial for companies seeking for potential investors from young millennials. The dataset also provides valuable insights for the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) and universities, particularly the faculty of economy and business in preparing their students with the financial literacy and investment knowledge.

Factors Influencing Consumption Behaviour towards Aquatic Food among Asian Consumers: A Systematic Scoping Review.

Project description:Asia accounts for over 70% of total global aquatic food consumption, but aquatic food consumption behaviours and attitudes among Asian consumers are poorly documented and understood. This paper synthesises literature on factors influencing aquatic food consumption behaviour in Asia and the potential to support transitions toward more sustainable food consumption patterns. We identified 113 studies for inclusion in a scoping review, and identified five clusters of publications: (1) product attributes, availability, and accessibility (24% of publications); (2) willingness to pay for aquatic foods (25%); (3) psychosocial factors (e.g., attitudes and subjective norms) (17%); (4) sociodemographic and lifestyle factors (21%); and (5) miscellaneous factors, including food safety and social status (13%). This study indicates that multiple interacting factors influence aquatic food consumption behaviours among Asian consumers, among which price is central. Knowledge of, and attitudes toward, the perceived quality and safety of aquatic foods were identified as important but were mediated by household characteristics. Sustainable production practices, country of origin, and ecolabels were found to be less influential on consumption behaviour. We found that improving consumers' knowledge and attitudes about the quality and safety of aquatic foods might positively influence aquatic food consumption behaviour. Future multidisciplinary research is required to better understand interactions among the multiple factors that influence Asian consumers' aquatic food consumption behaviour.

Survey dataset on the level of sustainable consumption of Malaysian households from the perspective of income and consumption expenditure.

Project description:Unsustainable consumption promotes discouraging patterns of consumption with negative impacts on society. It also contributes to inequalities and poverty. Unsustainable patterns of production and consumption undermine development goals in terms of inefficiency and overconsumption. This research explores the level of sustainable consumption of Malaysian households from the perspective of income and consumption expenditure. The analysis is based on cross-sectional data obtained from questionnaires distributed to 635 Malaysian households in eight districts in Terengganu (urban and rural areas) using stratified random sampling. The findings show that the level of sustainable consumption expenditure of Muslim households in Terengganu is still low. Achieving sustainable consumption patterns is more technically and politically complex than changing production patterns because it raises important issues such as human values, equity and lifestyle choices.

Sodium and Potassium Intake, Knowledge Attitudes and Behaviour Towards Salt Consumption Amongst Adults in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Project description:Excess salt and inadequate potassium intakes are associated with high cardiovascular disease (CVD). In Montenegro, CVD is the leading cause of death and disability. There is no survey that has directly measured salt and potassium consumption in Montenegro. The aim is to estimate population salt and potassium intakes and explore knowledge, attitudes and behaviour (KAB), amongst the adult population of Podgorica. Random samples of adults were obtained from primary care centres. Participants attended a screening including demographic, anthropometric and physical measurements. Dietary salt and potassium intakes were assessed by 24 h urinary sodium (UNa) and potassium (UK) excretions. Creatinine was measured. KAB was collected by questionnaire. Six hundred and thirty-nine (285 men, 25⁻65 years) were included in the analysis (response rate 63%). Mean UNa was 186.5 (SD 90.3) mmoL/day, equivalent to 11.6 g of salt/day and potassium excretion 62.5 (26.2) mmoL/day, equivalent to 3.2 g/day. Only 7% of them had a salt intake below the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended target of 5 g/day and 13% ate enough potassium (>90 mmoL/day). The majority (86%) knew that high salt causes ill-health. However, only 44% thought it would be useful to reduce consumption. Salt consumption is high and potassium consumption is low, in men and women living in Podgorica.

MyWSL: Malaysian words sign language dataset.

Project description:Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals use sign language as a means of communication. However, those around them, especially family members like the children of deaf adults, may face communication challenges if they are unfamiliar with sign language. This issue has prompted numerous researchers to conduct studies on sign language translation and recognition. However, there is currently no publicly available dataset specifically for Malaysian sign language. This article introduces an image dataset of the Malaysian Sign Language (MySL) hand gestures used in everyday situations. The dataset, named MyWSL2023, comprises 3,500 images of ten static Malaysian sign language words collected from five participants (two males and three females) aged between 20 and 21 years old. The data collection took place indoors under normal lighting conditions. The MyWSL2023 dataset, which has been made freely accessible to all researchers, serves as a valuable resource for not only investigating and developing automated systems for hearing-impaired and deaf individuals but also gesture and sign language recognition using vision-based methods. Dataset on the influence TPB predictors on environmental responsive behaviour amongst head teachers in the northern region of malaysia.

Project description:The study examined the relationship between environmental attitude, environmental subjective norm, environmental perceived behavioural control, and school headteachers' environmental responsive behaviour. The population of the study consists of primary school headteachers in the northern region of Malaysia who are attached to the Ministry of Education (MoE), Malaysia. An online survey was used to collect the data of the study from 167 sampled respondents. While Theory of planned behaviour underpinned the study, the researcher employed explanatory, descriptive, and hypothesis testing quantitative strategies to explain the relationship. Smart PLS 3.0 and SPSS 21 were equally used to analyse the data. The result of the data analysis revealed that environmental attitude, environmental subjective norm, and environmental perceived behavioural control significantly influence school headteachers' environmental responsive behaviour.

Factors affecting the purchase behaviour of farmers' markets consumers.

Project description:The main purpose of this study is to determine the factors that motivate consumers who shop at farmers' markets. The data for this study were gathered from questionnaires of 363 consumers from eight farmers' markets in seven districts of Izmir province, Turkey. To reveal the consumer profile of the farmers' markets examined in this study, consumer segments were determined using factor and cluster analysis. Two different consumer segments-'conventional' and 'conscious'-were identified in the farmers' markets examined. 'Conventional Consumers' reflect typical consumer behaviours and give more importance to factors such as the location of and access to the market, quality and freshness of the products, activities at and around the market and the availability and variety of products. 'Conscious Consumers', in contrast, represent a group that is more sensitive about food safety. The majority of consumers (63.64%) who visited farmers' markets were from the Conscious Consumer segment. The majority of the consumers who visit farmers' markets are conscious consumers, requiring the strategies related to these markets to be revised. Farmers' markets should be improved in terms of selecting vendors, food safety, physical facilities and social activities.

Survey dataset of Malaysian perception on rising cost of living.

Project description:The introduction of good and services tax (GST) that has replaced the sales and services tax (SST) had contributed to the rising cost of living in Malaysia. The focus of this research was to present a data article on the response and perception of Malaysian households about the increasing cost of living. A descriptive research design was adopted in this study. Data were obtained from randomly selected 751 respondents of households across Malaysia. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using tables and percentages. The findings show the negative perceptions of Malaysian households on the increase in the cost of living. There are various causes of the rising cost of living and can be inferred based on the perspective of income changes, price changes and patterns household consumption expenditure.

Environmental and social disclosures dataset for Malaysian public listed companies.

Project description:This article presents a comprehensive dataset extracted from published annual, sustainability and integrated reports, focusing on environmental (GRI300) and social (GRI400) disclosures, for the top 100 Malaysian public listed companies (based on Market Capitalization as of 31 December 2016). The dataset covers three years (2018 to 2020) with 300 firm-year observations. Environmental and Social disclosure scores were calculated using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework and derived from the content analysis of the companies' reports accessed from respective corporate or Bursa Malaysia's websites. A binary scoring method (one for disclosure or zero, otherwise for each environmental and social disclosure item) was employed. This scoring process underwent three stages of rigorous manual verification protocol: initial check and scoring by research assistants, review by the research team, and a final review by an independent external accounting firm for validation. This dataset is valuable for academics, practitioners, and policymakers to evaluate corporate alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #12, encouraging Responsible Consumption and Production, and shape strategic policies to meet Bursa compliance for enhanced corporate sustainability. It further aids in investigating associations between governance factors and other firm characteristics with environmental and social disclosures.

Harnessing Augmented Reality for Increasing the Awareness of Food Waste Amongst Dutch Consumers

Project description:Food waste is a significant challenge, and our societal behaviours play a role in the amount of food items discarded. Thus, an effective method to inform consumers about high wastage patterns may help reduce the amount thrown away. This research investigates how Augmented Reality can be harnessed to enlighten consumers and work towards addressing high food waste patterns. Yet research on this topic is still very much in its infancy. To pursue this solution, food behaviour data are employed to provide an insight into how much is wasted from 9 catering industry locations in the Netherlands. An Augmented Reality application is developed, where models of food are projected onto real-world environments to provide scale on waste over a 7-day period. A quantitative evaluation of higher-education attendees demonstrated the approach has potential to incentivise reduction in waste.
