The complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Littorina brevicula (Gastropoda, Littorinidea).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of the Littorina brevicula was determined in this study. The complete mitogenome (mtDNA) is 16,356 base pairs (bp) in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. The control region was divided into two parts. The overall base composition of the genome in descending order was 35.33%-T, 28.41%-A, 20.43%-C, and 15.81%-G. In 13 protein-coding genes, 12 genes start with ATG, except nad5 starts with ATT. For the stop codon, seven genes end with TAA, atp6, nad41, and nad3 end with TAG. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that L. brevicula is close to Naticidea family. This study first determined the complete mitochondrial genome of L. brevicula. It would be a supplement for the genetic analysis of L. brevicula and promote the phylogenetic of Littorinidea.

Project description:We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Batillaria cumingi. The B. cumingi mitochondrial genome is 16,100 bp in length, comprising 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes. The nucleotide composition for B. cumingi is 17.5% of C, 16.88% of G, 35.3% of T, and 30.31% of A. In 13 protein-coding genes, all genes start with ATG. For the stop codon, the cox2 gene stops with TTC, the cytb, nad1, and nad2 genes stop with TAG, and the other nine genes are with TAA. Of these 37 genes identified, nine protein-coding genes and six transfer RNA genes are encoded on the heavy strand and the other genes on the light strand. The phylogenetic tree was constructed based on 13 protein-coding genes of the B. cumingi and other 19 Gastropoda species, Sepia latimanus as outgroup using the Neighbour-joining method. The tree showed that the B. cumingi is closely related to the Semisulcospira coreana in Cerithioidea. We believe that this result will be helpful for the study of population genetic and phylogenetic analysis of the family Batillariidae.

Project description:We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Batillaria zonalis. The B. zonalis mitochondrial genome is 15748 bp in length, comprising 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes. The nucleotide composition for B. zonalis is 17.71% of C, 16.74% of G, 34.99% of T, and 30.3% of A. In 13 protein-coding genes, all genes start with ATG. For the stop codon, the cox2 gene stops with TTC, the cytb, nad1, nad2 genes stop with TAG, the other nine genes are with TAA. Of these 37 genes identified, nine protein-coding genes and six transfer RNA genes are encoded on the heavy strand and the other genes on the light strand. The phylogenetic tree was constructed based on 13 protein-coding genes of the B. zonalis and other 19 Gastropoda species, Sepia latimanus as outgroup using the Neighbour-joining method. The result showed that B. zonalis is most closely related to the Tylomelania sarasinorum in Cerithioidea. We believe that this result will be helpful for the study of population genetic and phylogenetic analysis of the family Batillariidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Omphalius rusticus (Gastropoda, Tegulidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the Omphalius rusticus has been determined. The complete genome is 18,067 bp and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes and 22 tRNA genes. The overall base composition is 33.48% (A), 33.52% (T), 15.58% (G) and 17.42% (C). The all start codon for 13 protein-coding genes is ATG and the most common termination codon is TAA. The phylogenetic tree showed that O. rusticus is most closely related to the Tectus pyramis. We suggest that this result will further supplement the genome information in mitochondria of the family Tegulidae and facilitate the study on population genetics.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Rivularia auriculata (Gastropoda, Viviparidae) with phylogenetic consideration.

Project description:Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Rivularia auriculata has a circular genome of 16,552 bp, which is comprised 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. The nucleotide composition of the light strand is 43.16% of A, 26.78% of T, 20.18% of C, and 9.88% of G. All genes are encoded on the heavy strand except seven tRNA genes (Met, Tyr, Cys, Trp, Gln, Gly, and Glu) on the light strand. All the protein-coding genes start with ATC initiation codon except ND4 starts with GTG, and two types of inferred termination codons are TAA and TAG. There are 26 intergenic spacers and 4 gene overlaps. It is indicated that R. auriculata has closer genetic relationship with Viviparus chui (88.64% nucleotide sequence identity between them) than the other snail species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Laeocathaica amdoana Mollendorff, 1899 and phylogenetic analysis of Camaenidae (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora: Helicoidea).

Project description:The first complete mitochondrial genome of the dart sac-bearing camaenid Laeocathaica Möllendorff, 1899 was sequenced and analyzed in this study. The whole mitogenome of Laeocathaica amdoana Möllendorff, 1899 was 14,660 bp in length and its nucleotide composition showed high AT-content of 67.45%. It had 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The phylogeny yielded by both Bayesian inference and maximum-likelihood method suggested that Laeocathaica was closely related to the other dart sac-bearing camaenids with known complete mitochondrial genome. These genetic data are expected to provide fundamental resources for further genetic studies on the camaenids.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the apple snail Pomacea diffusa (Gastropoda, Ampullariidae) with phylogenetic consideration.

Project description:We present the complete mitochondrial genome of Pomacea diffusa in this study. The results show that the mitochondrial genome is 16,640 bp in length, which is comprised of 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, and 21 tRNA genes. The nucleotide compositions of the light strand are 39.62% of A, 30.13% of T, 16.02% of C, and 14.24% of G. Except eight tRNA (Glu, Gly, Trp, Cys, Tyr, Met, Thr, Val) on the light strand, the rest are encoded on the heavy strand. All the protein-coding genes start with ATC initiation codon, and two types of inferred termination codons are TAA and TAG. There are 26 intergenic spacers and two gene overlaps. The phylogenetic analysis shows that P. diffusa clusters with P. canaliculata and P. maculata with high bootstrap support, which is consistent with the morphological and molecular evidence.

Project description:The sacoglossans are small sea slugs in the Heterobranchia. In this study, mitochondrial genome of a sacoglossan sea slug, Elysia ornata (Swainson, 1840) is analyzed and phylogenetic tree of the species in the Heterobranchia is reconstructed based on amino acid sequences of mitochondrial protein coding genes. The phylogenetic relationship analysis shows that E. ornata belongs to the monophyletic Sacoglossa in the Heterobranchia and the Sacoglossa shows sister group relationship with a lineage including Anaspidea and Siphonarioidea. This is the fourth record for the mitochondrial genome of sacoglossan sea slugs.

Complete mitochondrial genome analysis of Sakuraeolis japonica (Baba, 1937) (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Nudibranchia).

Project description:In this study, a complete mitochondrial genome of a nudibranch species, Sakuraeolis japonica was sequenced and analyzed. The mitochondrial genome size is 15,059 bp with 28.1% A, 14.9% C, 19.3% G, and 37.7% T nucleotide distributions. This is the eighth record for complete mitochondrial genome of the Nudibranchia and first record for the genus. Furthermore, phylogenetic relationship of S. Japonica in the Nudibranchia was investigated by using protein-coding genes of complete mitochondrial genome. The present study suggests that S. japonica belongs to the family Facelinidae and it is placed in monophyletic Nudibranchia. The closest species to S. japonica are Chromodoris magnifica and Chromodoris quadricolor that belong to the family Chromodorididae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pomacea diffusa (Gastropoda: Ampullariidae).

Project description:In this study, we analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome of the spike-topped apple snail, Pomacea diffusa Blume, 1957 (Gastropoda: Ampullariidae). The mitochondrial genome of P. diffusa was 16,373 bp, consisting 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, and 22 tRNAs and a non-coding region with a 12 bp repeat unit. There were 29 mitochondrial genes of P. diffusa are distributed on the H-strand, and the other eight tRNA genes encoded on the L-strand. The average AT content of 13 protein-coding genes was 68.7%. A phylogenetic analysis showed that there was a close relationship between P. diffusa and invasive apple snail species, Pomacea canaliculata and Pomacea aff. maculata.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Laevistrombus canarium (Gastropoda: Stromboidae).

Project description:Laevistrombus canarium is a marine gastropod species with high economical value. The complete mitochondrial genome of L. canarium has been characterized in this study. The circular mitogenome is 15626 bp in length and comprises 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The organization of these genes is consistent with that of other stromboidae species. The overall base composition of mitochondrial genome is 30.87% A, 38.99% T, 15.54% G, and 14.60% C, with 69.86% AT. Phylogenetic analysis further implies that L. canarium is placed within the Stromboidae.
