The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Centropus bengalensis (Lesser Coucal).

ABSTRACT: We first reported the mitochondrial genome of Centropus bengalensis. The mitogenome of C. bengalensis contains 17,117 base pairs. The overall base composition of complete mitogenome is 28.15% A, 27.95% T, 21.86% C, and 22.04% G, with 43.90% of the GC content. All genes exhibit the typical mitochondrial gene arrangement and transcribing directions. Phylogenetic analysis of 4 Centropus species was performed based on the sequence of cytochrome b gene using the neighbor-joining method and the Kimura 2-parameter model in MEGA 7.0.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of marine fish Abudefduf bengalensis was sequenced by the high throughput sequencing method. The genome of this species is 16,776 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one large non-coding region. The gene arrangement of A. bengalensis is identical to that of other common fishes. Phylogenetic tree based on 13 protein-coding genes shows that the clade of genus Abudefduf has a closer phylogenetic relationship to the lineage of genus Amphiprion and Premnas biaculeatus than to Labracinus cyclophthalmus.

Sequencing and analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of the lesser bandicoot rat (Bandicota bengalensis) from China and its phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:The complete mitogenome sequence of the lesser bandicoot rat (Bandicota bengalensis Gray and Hardwicke, 1833) was determined using long PCR. The genome was 16,327 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 1 origin of L strand replication and 1 control region. The overall base composition of the heavy strand is A (34.2%), C (24.9%), T (28.5%) and G (12.4%). The base compositions present clearly the A-T skew, which is most obviously in the control region and protein-coding genes. Mitochondrial genome analyses based on MP, ML, NJ and Bayesian analyses yielded identical phylogenetic trees. This study verifies the evolutionary status of Bandicota bengalensis in Muridae at the molecular level. The mitochondrial genome would be a significant supplement for the Bandicota bengalensis genetic background. The two Bandicota species formed a monophyletic group with the high bootstrap value (100%) in all examinations.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Prionailurus bengalensis (Carnivora: Felidae), a protected species in China.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the leopard cat Prionailurus bengalensis in China was sequenced using the shotgun genome-skimming method. The mitogenome of P. bengalensis is totally 17,006 bp in length with a higher A + T content of 60.4% than that of G + C and consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and one non-coding control region. All the PCGs initiate with a typical ATN codon and terminate with a TAA codon except for the four PCGs (COX1, ND2, ND3, and ND4) terminating with a single T-and one gene CYT B with AGA as stop codon. Most of the tRNA genes have a clover-leaf secondary structure except for tRNAS (AGN), which loses a dihydrouridine (DHU) arm. The ML phylogenetic tree showed that P. viverrinus nested in the group of P. bengalensis individuals, which is close to the clade clustered by the two genera Otocolobus and Felis.

First complete genome sequence of parainfluenza virus 5 isolated from lesser panda.

Project description:Parainfluenza virus 5 (PIV5) is widespread in mammals and humans. Up to now, there is little information about PIV5 infection in lesser pandas. In this study, a PIV5 variant (named ZJQ-221) was isolated from a lesser panda with respiratory disease in Guangzhou zoo in Guangdong province, southern China. The full-length genome of ZJQ-221 was found to be 15,246 nucleotides and consisted of seven non-overlapping genes encoding eight proteins (i.e., NP, V, P, M, F, SH, HN and L). Sequence alignment and genetic analysis revealed that ZJQ-221 shared a close relationship with a PIV5 strain of canine-origin (1168-1) from South Korea. The findings of this study confirm the presence of PIV5 in lesser panda and indicate this mammal as a possible natural reservoir. Furthermore they highlight the urgent need to strengthen viral surveillance and control of PIV5 in zoo animals.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Hemiculter bleekeri.

Project description:In our research, the complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Hemiculter bleekeri was obtained from the dorsal myotome of the fish. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 16,617 bp and deposited in GenBank with accession number KU198332. The gene arrangement was similar to other bony fishes, which contained 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNAs) and a major non-coding control region. The mtDNA may provide some important genetic background information of this valuable fish. The G contents was relatively low in the total mtDNA with the GCskewthinsp;= -0.22. The negative GC-skew ranging from -0.51(ATP8) to -0.19(CO1), and the more positive AT-skew varying from -0.26(ATP8) to -0.03(CO1). The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that H. Bleekeri was clustered together with Hemiculter leucisculus, which could be a sister species.

Project description:Gymnopilus junonius, a well-known poisonous mushroom, is distributed worldwide. It contains a hallucinogenic alkaloid psilocybin and several other bioactive compounds. The mitochondrial genome, a circular DNA molecule of 161,145 bp, comprises 15 protein-coding genes, 24 transfer RNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. The guanine-cytosine content was 31.56%. Based on the mitochondrial genome sequence, a phylogenetic tree was constructed to demonstrate the phylogenetic relationship. In this study, the phylogenetic positions of G. junonius and its related genera were determined.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Aequorea coerulescens.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequences of hydromedusa Aequorea coerulescens, a dominant giant jellyfish distributing in the Yellow Sea and northern East China Sea, China, is first reported in this research. Its mitochondrial DNA has 14,804 bp in length with a linear structure, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2rRNA (s-rRNA and l-rRNA), and 2tRNA (trnaW-TGA and tranM-AGT). The A + T content of the whole base composition of the genome is 72.8% (A: 30.15%; C: 12.33%; G: 14.87%; T: 42.64%). ATG, ATA, and ATT are start codons in five (ATP8, ATP6, COX3, NAD6, NAD4l), four (NAD2, NAD5, NAD1, COX1) and two PCGs (NAD3, NAD4), respectively. COB and COX2 began with GTG and CAA as start codon, respectively. TAA and ATA were the stop codon of ATP6 and NAD5 as well as NAD2 and NAD4, respectively. However, other PCGs were terminated with different stop codons. The NJ phylogenetic tree among the related 15 jellyfish species showed that A. coerulescens is close to Hydra spp.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Parumbrosa polylobata.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequences of giant jellyfish Parumbrosa polylobata, a scyphozoan species inhabiting the Yellow Sea cold bottom water in China, is firstly described and analyzed in this research. It is 16,809 bp in length with a linear mitochondrial DNA. The base composition of the genome with A + T bias is 69.7%. There are 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 tRNAs, and 2 rRNAs. Another two special PCGs, ORF360 and ORF147 with telomeres were found at both ends. The neighbor-joining (NJ) phylogenetic tree among the related 13 species showed that P. polylobata is close to Aurelia spp.
