The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Manilkara zapota (Linn.) van Royen.

ABSTRACT: The complete chloroplast genome sequences of Manilkara zapota (Linn.) van Royen in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province were reported in this study. The length of the sequence was 159,853 bp long with the large single copy (LSC) region of 89,632 bp, the small single copy (SSC) region of 18,747 bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 27,737 bp. The plastome contained 125 genes, including 84 protein-coding, 8 ribosomal RNA, and 33 transfer RNA genes. The overall GC content was 37.0%. Phylogenetic analysis of 12 representative plastomes within the order Ebenales suggests that M. zapota (Linn.) van Royen is closely related to the species in family Ebenaceae.

Project description:iThe plastome of Manilkara zapota is found to be 158,386 bp long with the typical quadripartite structure of angiosperms, contains two inverted repeats (IRs) of 26,099 bp each, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 87,745 bp, and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,443 bp. The plastome contains 114 genes, consisting of 80 unique protein-coding genes, 30 unique tRNA genes, and 4 unique rRNA genes. The overall A/T content in the plastome of M. zapota is 63.00%. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that M. zapota is close to Sideroxylon wightianum within Sapotaceae in this study.

Project description:Acanthopanax trifoliatus (Linn.) Merr. is an edible vegetables and medicinal plant from Asian countries. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of A. trifoliatus was assembled and annotated by high-throughput sequencing. The total chloroplast genome size of A. trifoliatus was 156,716 bp, containing a large single-copy (LSC) region of 86,672 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,174 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions of 25,935 bp. A total of 134 genes were predicted in the chloroplast genome of A. trifoliatus, including 89 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. trifoliatus was closely related to Eleutherococcus gracilistylus.

Potential role of Manilkara Zapota L in treating bacterial infection.

Project description:The increasing problem of antibiotic resistance in bacteria leads to an urgent need for new antimicrobial agents. Alternative treatments for bacterial infections need to be explored to tackle this issue. Plant-based substances are emerging as promising options. Manilkara zapota L. contains compounds with antibiotic activities, and anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antipyretic, and antioxidant properties. It has medicinal properties and contains bioactive compounds, like tannins, flavonoids, and triterpenoids. This review aimed to comprehensively evaluate the existing literature on the potential medicinal and therapeutic benefits of M. zapota in bacterial infections by utilizing data from in vivo and in vitro studies. M. zapota has the potential to be a nutritional source of antimicrobial food. Numerous preclinical studies have demonstrated the antibacterial activities of M. zapota and its components. The antibacterial mechanisms of this fruit could interact with bacterial cell structures such as cell walls or membranes.

Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the complete chloroplast genome of Cassia tora Linn.

Project description:Cassia tora Linn. is widely distributed in South-East Asia and South-West Pacific as an important weed. It has many pharmacological activities including anti-allergic, anti-hepatotoxic, and remedy in skin diseases. In this study, we assembled and characterized the complete chloroplast genome sequence of C. tora from high-throughput sequencing data. The chloroplast genome was 162,426 bp in length, consisting of large single-copy (LSC) and small single-copy (SSC) regions of 90,843 bp and 18,001 bp, respectively, which were separated by a pair of 26,791 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The genome is predicted to contain 131 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome is 36.0%. A phylogenetic tree reconstructed by 32 chloroplast genomes reveals that C. tora is mostly related to Senna occidentalis. The work reported the firstly complete chloroplast genome of C. tora which may provide useful information to the evolution of Cassieae Bronn.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Lemna turionifera (Araceae).

Project description:Lemna turionifera is native to North America and northern Asia, with significant potential for industrial wastewater remediation. The complete nucleotide sequence of the L. turionifera chloroplast genome (cpDNA) was determined. The cpDNA is a circular molecule of 166,606 bp and containing a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) measuting 31,663 bp each. These IRs are flanked by a small single-copy region of 13,542 bp and a large single-copy region of 89,738 bp. The chloroplast genome of L. turionifera consisted of 112 unique genes, including 78 protein-encoding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis utilizing cpDNA provided a well-supported resolution of the relationships among subfamilies within the Araceae family. Our findings indicated a close relationship between L. turionifera and a clade consisting of L. minor, L. japonica, and L. gibba. The availability of the complete chloroplast genome sequence of L. turionifera presents valuable data for future phylogenetic investigations within the Lemnaceae family.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Hedychium coronarium.

Project description:The first complete chloroplast genome of Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae) was reported in this study. The H. coronarium chloroplast genome was 163,949 bp in length and comprised a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 29,780 bp each, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 88,581 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 15,808 bp. It encoded 141 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes (79 PCG species), 46 tRNA genes (28 tRNA species), and eight rRNA genes (four rRNA species). The nucleotide composition was asymmetric (31.68% A, 18.35% C, 17.74% G, 32.23% T) with an overall AT content of 63.92%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. coronarium was classified into a monophyletic group within the genus Hedychium in family Zingiberaceae.
