Sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genome for the Wolf-eel, Anarrhichthys ocellatus (Anarhichadidae: Perciformes).

ABSTRACT: The first complete mitochondrial genome of the wolf-eel (Anarrhichthys ocellatus) was determined and analyzed in this work. It had a circular mapping molecular with the length of 16,506 bp and contained 12S and 16S rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes, and a 851 bp D-loop in the typical arrangement of the vertebrate consensus. Phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genome sequences of 47 representative species within the order Perciformes suggests that A. ocellatus is closely related to the species in the family Anarhichadidae. Anarrhichthys ocellatus mitogenome can contribute to our understanding of the phylogeny and evolution of this species.

Project description:The freshwater sleeper, Sineleotris saccharae Herre, 1940 is a member of the Odontobutiae family, widely distributed in southern China. In the present study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of S. saccharae for the first time and analyzed its evolutionary relationship. The complete mitochondrial genome of S. saccharae was 16,487 bp long, and had 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNAs) and a control region (CR). The mitogenome of S. saccharae shared the same gene organization and orientation as other teleosts. According to phylogenetic research, S. saccharae was sister to S. chalmersi with high support value, providing the monophyly of the genus Sineleotris. These results will be helpful for understanding the systematics of the odontobutids.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Stonogobiops yasha (Perciformes, Gobiidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Stonogobiops yasha was first determined in this study. The circle genome was 16,566 bp long and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region. The mitochondrial gene arrangement of S. yasha is similar to those of most other gobies. The phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining method showed that the kinship between Stonogobiops and Acentrogobius is closer than those between Stonogobiops and other selected genera. This is the first record of the complete mitogenome for the genus Stonogobiops.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Caranx equula (Perciformes, Carangidae): genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Caranx equula is an important marine fish which due to its commercial values. However, some wild populations of C. equula are in danger because of the overfishing and environmental pollution. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. equula was firstly determined. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,607 base pairs in length, and contained 13 protein-coding genes and 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 2 main non-coding regions. Overall A + T content was 52.9%. In addition, a phylogenetic tree was constructed using the complete mitochondrial genome and showed that C. equula clustered in a clade and formed a sister relationship with Caranx ignobilis belonged to the family of Carangidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome was 16,513 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 2 non-coding region (the control region and the origin of light strand replication). The overall base composition was A 26.37%, T 25.61%, C 30.80%, and G 17.22%. All protein-coding genes started with an ATG initiation codon, except COI used GTG. With the exception of ND6, all other genes were encoded on the heavy strand, the NJ tree demonstrated that A. macropterus has a closest relationship with Cheilodipterus quinquelineatus and Apogon semilineatus.

It consists of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region. 28 of the 37 genes were encoded on the heavy strand, and 9 of them were encoded on the light strand. The overall base composition of the genome is 27.84% A, 25.81% T, 29.68% C, and 16.67% G. The phylogenetic tree suggested I. campbelli was genetically closest to Acentrogobius pflaumii and Oxyurichthys formosanus. This study could provide valuable information for further studies on I. campbelli.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence and gene organization of Trematomus bernacchii (Perciformes: Nototheniidae) with phylogenetic consideration.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence was obtained from Trematomus bernacchii. The full length of mitogenome was 16 018 bp, including 20 transfer RNA genes, a 16S ribosomal RNA genes and an incomplete 12S rRNA, 12 protein-coding genes and an incomplete ND6 protein-coding gene, and 2 non-coding regions: control region (D-loop) and origin of light-strand (L-strand) replication (OL). Most genes were located on the heavy-strand (H-strand), while ND6 and seven tRNA genes were located on the L-strand. T. bernacchii's mitogenome was comprised of 24.52% for A, 25.44% for C, 20.38% for G and 29.66% for T, with a higher A + T content (54.18%). From the NJ phylogenetic tree, it revealed that T. bernacchii's was genetically closest to species Dissostichus eleginoides among seven species within suborder Notothenioidei. This study could lay the foundation for the future studies in species identification, taxonomic status, molecular systematics, stock evaluation and conservation genetics for T. bernacchii's.

The phylogenetic tree suggested C. antarcticus was genetically closest to some species in family Channichthyidae. This study could provide valuable information for further studies on population structure, conservation genetics and molecular evolution of C. antarcticus.

Project description:Parupeneus barberinus is a tropical/subtropical reef-dwelling marine fish belonging to the family Mullidae. Herein, we report the first sequencing and assembly of the complete mitochondrial genome of P. barberinus. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,560 bp long and has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 18 species showed that P. barberinus is clustered with P. multifasciatus and P. chrysopleuron and rooted with other Mullidae species. This mitochondrial genome provides potentially important resources for addressing taxonomic issues and studying molecular evolution.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Glossogobius giuris (Perciformes: Gobiidae).

Project description:The species tank goby (Glossogobius giuris) is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In the present study, we first determined and described the complete mitochondrial genome of G. giuris. The circular genome is 16,595 bp in length. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one non-coding control region. The overall base composition is 29.1% for A, 24.6% for T, 29.4% for C, and 17.0% for G. Phylogenetic analysis of 21 species in the family Gobiidae showed that G. giuris was clustered into the genus Glossogobius, subfamily Gobiinae. This information will contribute to future phylogenetic studies of Gobiidae and conservation strategies for G. giuris.
