Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Stonogobiops yasha (Perciformes, Gobiidae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Stonogobiops yasha was first determined in this study. The circle genome was 16,566 bp long and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region. The mitochondrial gene arrangement of S. yasha is similar to those of most other gobies. The phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining method showed that the kinship between Stonogobiops and Acentrogobius is closer than those between Stonogobiops and other selected genera. This is the first record of the complete mitogenome for the genus Stonogobiops.

Project description:The species tank goby (Glossogobius giuris) is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In the present study, we first determined and described the complete mitochondrial genome of G. giuris. The circular genome is 16,595 bp in length. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one non-coding control region. The overall base composition is 29.1% for A, 24.6% for T, 29.4% for C, and 17.0% for G. Phylogenetic analysis of 21 species in the family Gobiidae showed that G. giuris was clustered into the genus Glossogobius, subfamily Gobiinae. This information will contribute to future phylogenetic studies of Gobiidae and conservation strategies for G. giuris.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius sp. (Perciformes, Gobiidae).

Project description:The genus Rhinogobius was widely distributed in East Asia. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius sp., possible a new species of freshwater goby from Anhui province of China, was sequenced for the first time. Sequence analysis showed that it is 16,511 bp in length with A + T content of 52.3%, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and a control region (CR). Phylogenetic analyses placed Rhinogobius sp. in a well-supported monophyletic cluster with other Rhinogobius fish and the phylogenetic position of Rhinogobius sp. was closer to Rhinogobius cliffordpopei.

Complete mitochondrial genome of freshwater goby Rhinogobius shennongensis (Perciformes, Gobiidae): genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:In this study, we present the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius shennongensis, sequenced using the Illumina HiSeq platform. The result is a circular mitogenome of 16,500 base pairs (bp) with a pronounced A + T nucleotide bias. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted using both Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum-likelihood (ML) methods, utilizing the complete mitochondrial genomes of R. shennongensis and 19 additional Rhinogobius species. The analysis indicated a close mitochondrial relationship between R. maculagenys and R. shennongensis. This research not only enriches genetic resources but also supports phylogenetic studies within the genus Rhinogobius. To further clarify evolutionary dynamics, additional mitochondrial genome sequencing of other Rhinogobius species is essential.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthogobius stigmothonus (Perciformes, Gobiidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthogobius stigmothonus is first sequenced in this study. This genome was 16,666 bp in size and contained 37 classic genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and two ribosomal RNA genes. The gene organization and nucleotide composition were the same with those found in most other Gobiidae fishes. Among 37 genes, 28 were encoded by the heavy strand, while nine were encoded by the light strand. The total nucleotide composition of this genome was 27.4% for adenine (A), 17.6% for guanine (G), 28.2% for cytosine (C), and 26.8% for thymine (T), with a high A + T content of 54.2%. This study will provide a better understanding of population genetic diversity of A. stigmothonus and offer useful information for future studies concerning Gobiidae mitogenome evolution.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Gymnogobius heptacanthus (Perciformes, gobiidae).

Project description:Gymnogobius heptacanthus is a small intertidal species belonging to the family Gobiidae. Herein, we report the first sequencing and assembly of the complete mitochondrial genome of G. heptacanthus. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,529 bp long and has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 12 species showed that G. heptacanthus is clustered with G. urotaenia and G. petschiliensis and rooted with other Gobiidae species. This mitochondrial genome provides potentially important resources for addressing taxonomic issues and studying molecular evolution.

Project description:In this study, we sequenced the full mitochondrial genome of Bathygobius cocosensis, an abundant intertidal fish species, which may provide insights into the evolutionary genetics of chaotic genetic patchiness and range expansion in marine systems. The mitochondrial genome is 16,692 bp, and contains 13 protein-coding genes along with 22 tRNA and 2 rRNA genes and a D-loop region, arranged similarly to other Gobiidae species. A Bayesian phylogeny of Gobiidae species indicates close relationships to the genus Glossogobius. The B. cocosensis mitochondrial genome is now available through GenBank (Accession = MG704838).

The overall base composition of the genome is 27.84% A, 25.81% T, 29.68% C, and 16.67% G. The phylogenetic tree suggested I. campbelli was genetically closest to Acentrogobius pflaumii and Oxyurichthys formosanus. This study could provide valuable information for further studies on I. campbelli.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the giant mudskipper, Periophthalmodon schlosseri, was first reported in this study. The circle genome is 16 470 bp in length, with the base composition of 28.4% T, 15.4% G, 29.2% A and 27.0% C. The mitogenome includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and one D-loop region. Only the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 6 (NAD6) and eight tRNA genes are encoded on the light strand. The mitochondrial gene arrangement of P. schlosseri is similar to those of most other gobies. The phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining method showed that the kinship between Periophthalmodon and Periophthalmus is closer than those between Periophthalmodon and other selected genera. Our complete mitogenome data are going to provide the basis for taxonomic and phylogenetic research of amphibious mudskippers.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Sineleotris saccharae (Perciformes, Odontobutiae).

Project description:The freshwater sleeper, Sineleotris saccharae Herre, 1940 is a member of the Odontobutiae family, widely distributed in southern China. In the present study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of S. saccharae for the first time and analyzed its evolutionary relationship. The complete mitochondrial genome of S. saccharae was 16,487 bp long, and had 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNAs) and a control region (CR). The mitogenome of S. saccharae shared the same gene organization and orientation as other teleosts. According to phylogenetic research, S. saccharae was sister to S. chalmersi with high support value, providing the monophyly of the genus Sineleotris. These results will be helpful for understanding the systematics of the odontobutids.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Caranx equula (Perciformes, Carangidae): genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Caranx equula is an important marine fish which due to its commercial values. However, some wild populations of C. equula are in danger because of the overfishing and environmental pollution. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. equula was firstly determined. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,607 base pairs in length, and contained 13 protein-coding genes and 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 2 main non-coding regions. Overall A + T content was 52.9%. In addition, a phylogenetic tree was constructed using the complete mitochondrial genome and showed that C. equula clustered in a clade and formed a sister relationship with Caranx ignobilis belonged to the family of Carangidae.
