The complete chloroplast genome of Cerasus dictyoneura, an ornamental plant of China.

ABSTRACT: The complete cp genome of Cerasus dictyoneura was 158,084 bp in length, consisting of a LSC of 86,275 bp and a SSC of 19,039 bp, which were separated by a pair of 26,385 bp IRs. The genome contained 131 genes, including 86 proteincoding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content is 36.7%, while the corresponding values of the LSC, SSC, and IR regions are 34.6, 29.5, and 42.6%, respectively. Furthermore, phylogenetic analysis based on 16 complete cp genome sequences indicated that C. dictyoneura is within Eurosids I.

Project description:Primula beesiana Forrest is a perennial rosette alpine species in the Sect. Proliferae of family Primulaceae. Here, the first complete chloroplast genome of P. beesiana was determined. The size of the complete chloroplast genome of P. beesiana is 150873 bp with GC content of 37.1%. The assembled genome has a typical quadripartite structure, containing a large single-copy (LSC) region was 82850 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region was 17,651 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) regions was 25,186 bp. There are 137 genes are annotated in the whole cp genome with 91 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 38 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, including 115 unique genes, 81 unique CDSs, 30 unique tRNAs, and 4 unique rRNAs. The phylogenetic tree showed that P. beesiana is closely related to P. bulleyana.

Project description:Cerasus jingningensis is a deciduous shrub endemic to Zhejiang province, China. In our study, we assembled and characterised the chloroplast (CP) genome of C. jingningensis based on high-throughput Illumina sequencing data. The CP genome is 157,913 bp in length with an overall GC content of 36.7%, and it consists of two inverted repeats of 26,427 bp each, a large single copy of 85,934 bp, and a small single copy of 19,125 bp. The genome harbours 131 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, eight rRNA genes, and a pseudogene ycf1. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that C. jingningensis is a sister of C. serrulata var. spontanea.

Characteristic of the complete chloroplast genome of Symphoricarpos sinensis, an important ornamental plant endemic to China.

Project description:Symphoricarpos sinensis is an important ornamental plant in China. Due to the lack of efficient molecular markers, although recent studies supported that Symphoricarpos was phylogenetically closely related to Lonicera, Triosteum, Heptacodium, and Leycesteria, relationships among these taxa remained uncertain. To examine the phylogenetic position of Symphoricarpos within Caprifoliaceae, we characterized the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of S. sinensis. The results showed that S. sinensis shared a typical quadripartite structure as with most angiosperms. It was 155,738 bp in length, including two inverted repeat (IR) regions (24,010 bp), a small single-copy (SSC) region (18,942 bp) and a large single-copy (LSC) region (88,776 bp). Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that Caprifoliaceae and Adoxaceae formed two distinct monophyletic clades, and S. sinensis was closely related to lonicera and Triosteum, albeit with low support. The whole cp genome of S. sinensis will be useful resources for future studies on phylogeny and conservation in Symphoricarpos.

The complete chloroplast genome of the ornamental plant Primula violaris (Primulaceae).

Project description:Primula violaris is a perennial herb distributed throughout the western part of Hubei Province and the southern part of Shaanxi Province, China. We present on of the first reports of the complete chloroplast genome sequence for P. violaris. The complete chloroplast genome was 153,630 bp in size, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 84,526 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,812 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,646 bp. There were 130 genes in the chloroplast genome, including 86 CDSs, 36 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that P. violaris is closely related to P. oreodoxa. The complete chloroplast genome of ornamental plant Ruellia simplex C.Wright (Acanthaceae).

Project description:Ruellia simplex C.Wright is a perennial plant of the Acanthaceae, which has significant ornamental value. Because of its strong adaptability, it is widely planted in Chinese rural areas. Based on sequencing data from Illumina, the first complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Ruellia simplex C.Wright is reported in this paper. This cp genome was 143,016bp in length, including a large single-copy region (LSC) of 91,857bp, a small single-copy (SSC) of 17,591bp and two inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 16,784bp. It contained 128 genes, 35 transfer RNA genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes, with an overall GC content of 38.41%. Additionally, the phylogenetic analysis showed that Ruellia simplex is closely related to Strobilanthes cusia (NC_037485), Strobilanthes bantonensis (MT576695) and Echinacanthus attenuatus (NC_039762). The results of this study provide valuable information for the continued study of its species evolution, genetic engineering and germplasm resource utilization.

The complete chloroplast genome of Primula vialii (Primulaceae), an ornamental plant.

Project description:Primula vialii Delavay ex Franch. (1905) is an alpine species with an ornamental value. In this study, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated the chloroplast genome of P. vialii. The results showed that it was a double-stranded, closed circular DNA with 154,897 bp in length, comprising a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,766 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 85,379 bp and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,876 bp. A total of 113 unique genes were annotated, including 79 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that P. vialii is closely related to Primula flaccida. The cp genomic data will be useful for systematics and evolutionary studies of Primula.

The complete chloroplast genome of Primula calliantha subsp. bryophila, an ornamental alpine plant from China.

Project description:Primula calliantha subsp. bryophila (Balf. f. et Farrer) W.W. Smith and Forrest (1928) is a perennial alpine species with ornamental value. It is distributed in northwestern Yunnan and adjacent eastern Tibet of China, and northern Myanmar. Here, we sequenced and assembled complete plastid genome of P. calliantha subsp. bryophila, which is a circular molecule of 152,045 bp in length, including a large single-copy region (83,966 bp), a small single-copy region (17,663 bp), and a pair of inverted repeats (25,208 bp). The chloroplast genome contained 113 genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, four rRNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes. The phylogenetic tree based on chloroplast genomes showed the relative relationship of P. calliantha subsp. bryophila and P. calliantha, which further supports P. calliantha subsp. bryophila as a subspecies of P. calliantha in taxonomy. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of P. calliantha subsp. bryophila provides valuable data for further phylogenetic studies of Primulaceae.

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Lonicera tangutica (Caprifoliaceae), an ornamental and medicinal plant in China.

Project description:In the present study, the complete chloroplast genome of Lonicera tangutica is presented and characterized for the first time. The complete chloroplast genome was 156,121 bp in length, including 23,899 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions, an 89,466 bp large single-copy (LSC) region, and an 18,851 bp small single-copy (SSC) region. A total of 129 genes, including 37 tRNA genes, eight rRNA genes, and 84 protein-coding genes, were annotated, and the overall GC content of the chloroplast genome was 38.35%. Two introns in the ycf3 gene and a single intron in another gene were detected. Maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis indicated that L. tangutica has a very close evolutionary relationship with Lonicera praeflorens, Lonicera hispida, Lonicera fragrantissima, and Lonicera stephanocarpa. These results are valuable for studying the evolution and genetic diversity of L. tangutica.

The complete chloroplast genome of Callicarpa bodinieri (Lamiales, Lamiaceae), an ornamental and medicinal plant from Chongqing, China.

Project description:Plants classified to the genus Callicarpa L. have important medicinal and ornamental value. Here, we report and characterize the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of C. bodinieri to provide molecular basis for the further studies on the phylogeny analysis of this genus. The cp genome is 154,183 bp in length and is organized with a typical quadripartite structure, containing two inverted repeats of 25,701 bp separated by a large single-copy region of 84,956 bp and a small single-copy region of 17,825 bp. The cp genome of C. bodinieri contains 112 distinct genes, including 78 protein-coding, 30 tRNAs and 4 rRNAs genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that C. bodinieri is fully resolved in a clade with C. nudiflora, sister to the clade of C. formosana and C. longifolia var. floccosa.

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of the ornamental plant Osmanthus cooperi.

Project description:Osmanthus cooperi is an evergreen ornamental plant belonging to the olive family. In this study, its complete chloroplast genome was assembled from the whole genome Illumina sequencing data. The circular genome is 155,262 bp long, and comprises a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs, 25,685 bp each), a large single-copy region (LSC, 86,525 bp), and a small single-copy region (SSC, 17,367 bp). It encodes 132 genes, including 8 rRNA genes, 36 tRNAs genes, and 88 protein-coding genes. The GC content of O. cooperi cp genome is 37.8%. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that O. cooperi is close to O. fragrans in Oleaceae.
