The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Yimeng wool rabbit.

ABSTRACT: Yimeng wool rabbit is a national breed of geographical indication in China. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Yimeng wool rabbit was first determined in this study (Accession number MN296708). The mitogenome (16,740 bp) consists of 22 tRNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, and 1 control region (D-loop region). The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the Yimeng wool rabbit enriches data resource for further study in genetic mechanism and classification.

In the present paper, the sequenced mitochondrial genome of P. changtingensis is of 16573 bp in length, and encodes 13 typical protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and one control region. The result of phylogenetic analysis demonstrates that P. changtingensis is close to that of P. fasciatus.

Complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Brachysomophis crocodilinus (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae).

Project description:Brachysomophis crocodilinus belongs to the family Ophichthidae, the complete mitochondrial genome of which was sequenced in this study. The mitochondrial genome of B. crocodilinus is of 17,818 bp in length, with overall base composition of 32.11% A, 24.69% T, 16.22% G, and 26.98% C. The genome content includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 control regions. The result of phylogenetic analysis indicates that B. crocodilinus mitogenome is close to that of Ophisurus macrorhynchos, which are nested within the family Ophichthidae.

Complete sequence of mitochondrial DNA of Gracilaria tenuistipitata (Rhodophyta).

Project description:We sequenced and analysed the complete mitogenome of Gracilaria tenuistipitata. The complete G. tenuistipitata mitogenome is 25,819 bp long, containing 50 genes, including 24 protein-coding genes, one intron, two rRNA genes, 23 tRNA genes, and one unidentified open reading frame. Twenty-three of the 24 (95.83%) protein-coding genes ended with the TAA stop codon, and one (4.17%) with TAG (rps3 gene). All protein-coding genes in G. tenuistipitata were found to contain the start codon ATG. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that G. tenuistipitata clustered with G. chilensis. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence provided here should be useful for elucidation of Gracilaria evolution.

Project description:One complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) was determined for Heterochaerus australis (Acoela, Convolutidae). Its mitochondrial genome size was 13,885 bp. The sequence contains 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rrnL and rrnS), 20 tRNA genes, and 12 protein-coding genes (PCGs). The A + T content of the complete mitochondrial genome sequence was 70.8%. The base composition showed a tendency of high AT. The resulted maximum likelihood (ML) tree supported that Acoela had a distant relationship with other orders of Turbellaria and the Xenacoelomorpha.

Complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of yellow-legged buttonquail (Turnix tanki).

Project description:The Yellow-legged Buttonquail Turnix tanki is a species of the genus Turnix, which belongs to the order Charadriiformes. It is distributed across almost all of China. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed the bird's conservation status as 'Least Concern (LC).' We sequenced the complete mitogenome of T. tanki and examined its phylogenetic relationship with other charadriiformes species. The mitochondrial DNA is packaged in a compact 17,620 base pair circular molecule with A + T content of 57.90%. It contains 37 typical mitochondrial genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs and 22 tRNAs, and two non-coding regions. We reconstructed a phylogenetic tree based on mitogenome sequences of five Turnicidae species and one outgroup. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that T. tanki is a sister to T. suscitator.

The complete sequence of the zebrafish (Danio rerio) mitochondrial genome and evolutionary patterns in vertebrate mitochondrial DNA.

Project description:We describe the complete sequence of the 16,596-nucleotide mitochondrial genome of the zebrafish (Danio rerio); contained are 13 protein genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and a noncoding control region. Codon usage in protein genes is generally biased toward the available tRNA species but also reflects strand-specific nucleotide frequencies. For 19 of the 20 amino acids, the most frequently used codon ends in either A or C, with A preferred over C for fourfold degenerate codons (the lone exception was AUG: methionine). We show that rates of sequence evolution vary nearly as much within vertebrate classes as between them, yet nucleotide and amino acid composition show directional evolutionary trends, including marked differences between mammals and all other taxa. Birds showed similar compositional characteristics to the other nonmammalian taxa, indicating that the evolutionary trend in mammals is not solely due to metabolic rate and thermoregulatory factors. Complete mitochondrial genomes provide a large character base for phylogenetic analysis and may provide for robust estimates of phylogeny. Phylogenetic analysis of zebrafish and 35 other taxa based on all protein-coding genes produced trees largely, but not completely, consistent with conventional views of vertebrate evolution. It appears that even with such a large number of nucleotide characters (11,592), limited taxon sampling can lead to problems associated with extensive evolution on long phyletic branches.

Complete sequence of the mitochondrial DNA of the annelid worm Lumbricus terrestris.

Project description:We have determined the complete nucleotide (nt) sequence of the mitochondrial genome of an oligochaete annelid, the earthworm Lumbricus terrestris. This genome contains the 37 genes typical of metazoan mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), including ATPase8, which is missing from some invertebrate mtDNAs. ATPase8 is not immediately upstream of ATPase6, a condition found previously only in the mtDNA of snails. All genes are transcribed from the same DNA strand. The largest noncoding region is 384 nt and is characterized by several homopolymer runs, a tract of alternating TA pairs, and potential secondary structures. All protein-encoding genes either overlap the adjacent downstream gene or end at an abbreviated stop codon. In Lumbricus mitochondria, the variation of the genetic code that is typical of most invertebrate mitochondrial genomes is used. Only the codon ATG is used for translation initiation. Lumbricus mtDNA is A + T rich, which appears to affect the codon usage pattern. The DHU arm appears to be unpaired not only in tRNAser(AGN), as is typical for metazoans, but perhaps also in tRNAser(UCN), a condition found previously only in a chiton and among nematodes. Relating the Lumbricus gene organization to those of other major protostome groups requires numerous rearrangements.

It has the common feature with those of other grayling with respect to genome structure and gene arrangement. It contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer tRNA genes, and 1 control region (D-loop region). The complete mitochondrial genome of Xinjiang arctic grayling T. arcticus grubei provides an important data set for further study on its classification.
