A new species of the genus Henricia (Asteroidea, Spinulosida, Echinasteridae) from South Korea.

ABSTRACT: A new species of the genus Henricia Gray, 1840 that belongs to the family Echinasteridae is described from South Korea. Henricia epiphysialis sp. nov. has epiphyseal ossicles at the ends of the abactinal and lateral plates, and the abactinal and lateral spines form a hooked crown. The partial sequence of the mitochondrial COXI gene (537 bp) of H. epiphysialis sp. nov. was obtained, and the new species was morphologically and genetically compared with other related Henricia species.

Three new species of the genus Probles Forster (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Tersilochinae) from South Korea.

Project description:Three closely related species of the genus Probles Förster, P. fulgida sp. n., P. korusa sp. n. and P. rukora sp. n., belong to the subgenus Euporizon Horstmann and differ from other Palearctic species of the genus by a combination of long and apically weakly sinuate ovipositor and short temple. These three species are assigned to a newly designated fulgida species-group, and a portion of the key for identification of this species-group is provided. Based on the shape of the ovipositor apex, the fulgida species-group resemble members of the subgenus Microdiaparsis Horstmann but are distinct in having a much shorter temple.

Project description:The species of the genus Cratospila Foerster, 1863 (Braconidae, Alysiinae) from South Korea are revised, and the genus is recorded for the first time from South Korea. All four species are new to science, and Cratospila albifera sp. nov., C. ejuncida sp. nov., C. luteocephala sp. nov., and C. syntoma sp. nov. are described and illustrated herein. In addition, COI has been sequenced of three species. A key to the Korean species is provided.

Project description:A new species of the genus Acrossus Mulsant, 1842, Acrossusbaei sp. nov. from South Korea, is described and illustrated on the basis of morphology and mitochondrial COI sequences. The species was compared with four related species; Acrossusatratus (Waterhouse, 1875), A.humerospinosus (Petrovitz, 1958), A.luridus (Fabricius, 1775), and A.superatratus (Nomura & Nakane, 1951). The taxonomic status and diagnostic characters of the new species are discussed. A key to species of the genus Acrossus in the Korean Peninsula is given.

A new genus and species of Nannopodidae (Crustacea, Copepoda, Harpacticoida) from the Yellow Sea of South Korea.

Project description:A new monospecific genus of the family Nannopodidae Brady, 1880 is proposed, based on specimens of both sexes of Concilicoxa hispida gen. et sp. nov. collected from subtidal sandy sediments in the Yellow Sea of South Korea. The presence of a coxal outer projection on the first to fourth legs and reduction of both rami of the second to fourth legs in this new genus show a clear relationship with a clade, which is characterised by the modified thoracopods for burrowing ability, comprising Huntemannia Poppe, 1884, Rosacletodes Wells, 1985, Laophontisochra George, 2002, Acuticoxa Huys & Kihara, 2010 and Talpacoxa Corgosinho, 2012 in Nannopodidae. Within this clade, C. hispida gen. et sp. nov. is most closely related to L. maryamae George, 2002 in having the prehensile endopod in the first leg, broad intercoxal sclerite on the second to fourth legs and the female fifth leg being composed of separate exopod and baseoendopod, but is distinguished by the absence of mandibular exopod, two-segmented mandibular endopod, presence of four setae on the distal exopodal segment of the first leg, and fusion of the intercoxal sclerite to the coxae in the third and fourth legs. These four features are considered as autapomorphies of the new genus. The possible relationship amongst members of the nannopodid clade is further discussed. Additionally, some comments on the taxonomic position of L. terueae Björnberg, 2014 are given, resulting in the transfer of the species to Acuticoxa as A. terueae comb. nov.

Project description:BackgroundMarine benthic harpacticoid copepods are poorly known in Korea due to the difficulty in obtaining specimens. Currently, the genus Stylicletodes Lang, 1936, which is known to occur in subtidal sediments, has not been reported in this area so far. During surveys on the subtidal meiofauna, we found a new species of Stylicletodes from several subtidal muddy sediments in the Yellow Sea and South Sea.New informationIn this study, we describe both sexes of a new species of Stylicletodes collected from the Yellow Sea and South Sea of Korea. Stylicletodestrifidus sp. nov. differs from its congeners in the following characteristics: the trifid rostrum, relative length ratio of the endopods to exopods on legs 1-4, reduced armature formulae on legs 3-4, constricted shape at mid-length of the anal somite, and structure of the sexually dimorphic male leg 3 with a two-segmented endopod. The new species underwent loss of the maxilliped, which is very rare in harpacticoids and is probably an important clue for the phylogeny of the species of Stylicletodes.

Astilbeuljinensis (Saxifragaceae), a new species from South Korea

Project description:Abstract A new species Astilbeuljinensis B.U.Oh & H.J.Choi is described from Gangwon-do and Kyeongsangbuk-do in South Korea based on its morphological characteristics and distributional pattern. A.uljinensis is easily distinguished not only from three other Astilbe species in South Korea, but all other species in the genus by possessing a green young rachis, dense long whitish glandular hairs on the young rachis, dense long brownish glandular hairs on the mature inflorescence, and a slightly undulated margin of leaf epidermal cells. Specific comparisons of morphological features such as the type of the trichome, the shape of the leaf epidermis cell, and the color of the young rachis that differentiate A.uljinensis from Astilbechinensis, another South Korean Astilbe species, are provided.

New Cantharellus species from South Korea.

Project description:In this third contribution involving new Cantharellus species from South Korea, two new species are introduced. In addition, we document a first report of the recently described Japanese Cantharellus anzutake outside of Japan based on identical ITS sequence data. Cantharellus citrinus sp. nov. is introduced as a new member of subgenus Cinnabarini, to which the closely related Korean C. albovenosus and Chinese C. phloginus also belong. Cantharellus curvatus sp. nov. is introduced as a new member of subgenus Parvocantharellus, in which the Korean C. koreanus was recently placed. The respective placements of the new taxa are significantly supported by a phylogenetic analysis of sequences from the transcription elongation factor (tef-1).
