Investigation of the interaction between proton pump inhibitors and clopidogrel using VerifyNow P2Y12 assay.

ABSTRACT:

Background

Randomized trials and observation studies have revealed conflicting results regarding the interaction between clopidogrel and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). The aim of our study was to provide laboratory evidence regarding whether PPIs blunt the antiplatelet reactivity of clopidogrel.

Methods

We included records of Asian patients who received clopidogrel treatment for cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events and the VerifyNow P2Y12 assay for platelet reactivity monitoring.
