The complete mitochondrial genome of Ctenochaetus flavicauda (Acanthuriformes, Acanthuridae).

ABSTRACT: Ctenochaetus flavicauda is one of most important genera of Acanthuridae. However, the systemically classification and taxonomic studies have so far been limited. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of C. flavicauda. The mitogenome has 15,772 base pairs (55.5% A + T content) and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a putative control region. This study will provide useful genetic information for future phylogenetic and taxonomic classification of Acanthuridae.

The complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic position of the Scalpel sawtail Prionurus scalprum Valenciennes, 1835 (Acanthuriformes: Acanthuridae) from Jeju Island, Korea.

Project description:Although the mitochondrial genomes of most Acanthuriformes fish have been sequenced, this has not been done for Prionurinae fish yet. The Scalpel sawtail (Prionurus scalprum Valenciennes, 1835) found in all tropical and sub-tropical seas, is an important link between primary producers and higher trophic levels. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the Scalpel sawtail, Prionurus scalprum Valenciennes, 1835 (accession number: OK323243) was sequenced. The complete mitochondrial genome included 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region; the total length was 16,522 bp. The nucleotide composition of the genome was as follows: A, 28.46%; T, 27.62%; G, 16.46%; and C, 27.46%. All genes were encoded on the H-strand, except for the eight tRNA genes and NADH dehydrogenase subunit (ND6). A phylogenetic tree was constructed using the neighbor-joining (NJ) method and the phylogenetic position of the Scalpel sawtail was established. This provides useful data for future research on Acanthuridae fish.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Siganus virgatus Valenciennes (Siganidae: Acanthuriformes).

Project description:Siganus virgatus Valenciennes 1835 is an essential species for examining reef ecosystems; however, its mitochondrial genome has not been studied. In this research, the mitogenome of S. virgatus was sequenced and characterized. The results revealed a circular genome of 16,505 bp that was composed of A (28.1%), C (31.3%), G (14%), and T nucleotides (26.6%). The genome contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes. Most genes of the mitogenome were transcribed on the heavy strand (H-strand), whereas ND6 and eight tRNA genes (including tRNA-Ala, -Asn, -Cys, -Gln, -Glu, -Ser (1), -Pro, and -Tyr) were transcribed on the light strand (L-strand). Comparative analysis revealed a high degree of conservation of gene content and order among the Siganus mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analysis inferred from whole mitogenomes exhibited a close relationship between S. virgatus and S. guttatus. The newly completed mitogenome of S. virgatus provides essential genomic data for further studies on population genetics and the evolution of the Siganus genus and the Siganidae family.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Ctenochaetus tominiensis (Actinopteri, Acanthuridae).

Project description:We sequenced and annotated the complete mitochondrial genome of Ctenochaetus tominiensis (Randall 1955) from Indonesia. The genome was assembled into a circular molecule of 16,429 bp with 44.45% GC content. This genome consisted of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and 1D-loop. Phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs showed that Ctenochaetus and Acanthurus were recovered in a single clade. The mitochondrial genome of C. tominiensis is helpful for species identification and phylogenetic position of fish.

The complete mitogenome is 16,611 bp in length composed of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and a control region. The nucleotides consist of 33.8% A, 20.6% C, 25.0% G, 20.6% T. The gene order and direction are identical to those of N. lopezi and the species of Acanthuridae. The result would be useful to investigate genetic relationships among the species of Naso.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the surgeon fish Acanthurus lineatus Linnaeus 1758 (Perciformes: Acanthuridae).

Project description:Acanthurid fishes are highly ornamental coral reef fishes, commonly called as surgeon fishes. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthurus lineatus was determined (GenBank accession no EU273284). The genome was circular, double-stranded molecules of 16,532 bp length encoded with 37 mitochondrial genes. It contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and 852 bp long control region. The entire nucleotide composition was 29.84% A, 28.07% C, 26.60% T and 15.49% G with an A + T content of 56.44%. Phylogenetic relationship of A. lineatus among the closely related species of Perciformes was studied based on H-strand protein-coding genes using the maximum parsimony method.

The first complete mitochondrial genomes of sawtail surgeonfishes (Acanthuridae: Prionurus).

Project description:Surgeonfishes of the family Acanthuridae are primarily large-bodied herbivores that provide critical ecosystem services to coral reefs. Five out of the six genera that comprise the family have had mitochondrial genomes sequenced, with the exception of the genus Prionurus. Here, for the first time, we assemble and annotate the mitochondrial genomes of two sawtail surgeonfishes. The circular genomes of P. biafraensis and P. laticlavius are 16,552 bp and 16,531 bp in length, respectively, and contain 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region. Gene arrangement and codon usage were similar to reported mitochondrial genomes of other surgeonfish genera, and a phylogenetic analysis of protein-coding genes recovers a topology for Acanthuridae that is consistent with nuclear analyses.

Sequencing and analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of the surgeon fish Acanthurus leucosternon BENNETT 1833 (Perciformes: acanthuridae) with phylogenetic consideration.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthurus leucosternon was determined. The genome is circular, double-stranded DNA molecule with 16,434 bp in length (EU 136032). The structure, gene organization, and gene order is similar as in other vertebrates. The overall base composition is A (29.29%), C (28.53%), T (26.37%), G (15.81%), and with 44.33% G + C content. Overlapping observed between contiguous genes is encoded in the opposite strands. The two 12S and 16S rRNA genes consist of 949 and 1690 nucleotides, respectively. Non-coding control region is 754 bp long and origin of replication is located in the WANCY cluster. Conserved domains in the control regions and secondary structures for the OL regions are also predicted. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using Maximum-Likelihood method of A. leucosternon based on the protein-coding gene sequence was also studied.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Triplophysa nasobarbatula.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial DNA genome of Triplophysa nasobarbatula was sequenced and characterized. Triplophysa nasobarbatula revealed that the complete length of its mitochondrial genome was 16,316 bp, composed of A (29.71%), C (24.79%), G (17.22%), T (28.29%), A + T (57.99%), and C + G (42.01%). Its genetic constitution and arrangement were consistent with the taxon of the Teleost, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 main non-coding regions, D-loop region and OL region. All genes were encoded by the H-strand, except for 1 protein-coding gene (ND6) and 8 tRNA genes (tRNA-Gln, tRNA-Ala, tRNA-Cys, tRNA-Asn, tRNA-Tyr, tRNA-Ser, tRNA-Glu and tRNA-Pro) are encoded by the L-strand. Our mitochondrial genome data may provide information for taxonomic resolution, taxonomic resolution, and other studies about this genus of Triplophysa.
