Characteristic of complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic relationship of a Chinese Serow in Xishui, China.

ABSTRACT: In this study, we reported a complete mitochondrial genome of Chinese Serow from Guiyang. It has a circular genome of 16,442 bp including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region. In the phylogenetic tree, we found it clustered tightly with a sequence with a distinct white forehead and white face outlook in the genus Capricornis, which indicated there are a certain number of this species.

Project description:The Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) is an extremely endangered species, it has been banned from international trade due to a sharp decline of the population number in China. It is difficult to distinguish among subspecies, thus making it entangled in law enforement. In order to clarify this chaos, we determined and annotated the whole mtDNA genome of the Chinese pangolin. The complete mitogenome is 16 573 bp in length, includeing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and one control region. We built the phylogenetic tree of Chinese pangolinand other 7 most related Manis species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Chinese salamander Batrachuperus pinchonii: genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:The complete mitogenome sequence of Batrachuperus pinchonii (Caudata: Hynobiidae) has been amplified and sequenced in this study. The overall base composition of B. pinchonii mitogenome is 33.9% for A, 19.7% for C, 13.6% for G, and 32.8% for T and has low GC content of 33.3%. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 16,381 bp, has 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 D-loop region. All PCGs, except for ND6 gene, were encoded on H-strand. Phylogenetic analysis with the whole mitogenome sequences revealed a close relationship of B. pinchonii with B. tibetanus.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Penicillidia jenynsii (Diptera: Hippoboscoidea: Nycteribiidae) and phylogenetic relationship.

Project description:In recent years, bat-associated pathogens, such as 2019 novel coronavirus, have been ravaging the world, and ectoparasites of bats have received increasing attention. Penicillidia jenynsii is a member of the family Nycteribiidae which is a group of specialized ectoparasites of bats. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of P. jenynsii was sequenced for the first time and a comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the superfamily Hippoboscoidea was conducted. The complete mitochondrial genome of P. jenynsii is 16 165 base pairs (bp) in size, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and 1 control region. The phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs of the superfamily Hippoboscoidea known from the NCBI supported the monophyly of the family Nycteribiidae, and the family Nycteribiidae was a sister group with the family Streblidae. This study not only provided molecular data for the identification of P. jenynsii, but also provided a reference for the phylogenetic analysis of the superfamily Hippoboscoidea.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Bombyx lemeepauli (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) and its phylogenetic relationship.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Bombyx lemmepauli Lemée has been sequenced with 15,801 bp in length (Genbank no. KY620270), and has a base composition of A (43.17%), G (7.40%), C (11.90%), and T (37.86%). Similar to other bombyciod species, it contains a typically conserved structure including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and an A + T-rich region. Excepting cox1 started with CGA, the start codons of the other 12 PCGs were ATN. Eleven of the 13 PCGs ended with TAA, expect for cox1 and cox2, which ended with a single T. The complete mitogenome sequence provided here would be useful for further understanding the evolutional position of B. lemeepauli, which is a key species to relate the famous resource insect B. mori and the important insect pest Rondotia menciana (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae).

The complete mitochondrial genome of Chinese minnow (Rhynchocypris oxycephalus) and its phylogenetic analyses.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome can provide novel insights into understanding the mechanism underlying mitogenome evolution. In the present study, the whole mitochondrial genome of Rhynchocypris oxycephalus was determined to 16608 bp (GenBank accession No: MW057563), including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. The overall base composition was 28.62% A, 27.23% T, 26.31% C and 17.84% G, with a total A + T content of 55.85%. The Maximum Likelihood tree showed that the phylogenetic relationship is closer between R. oxycephalus and Phoxinus oxycephalus jouyi than the other species. The whole mitogenome of this species will be useful for the future animal evolutionary, phylogenetic relationship, and genomic studies in the genus Phoxinus.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of a Chinese Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) from China has been described in this study. It has a circular genome of 16,996 bp with a higher A + T content of 58.65%, and the base composition is A: 32.31%, G: 14.29%, T: 26.35%, C: 27.06%. When compared with the reported individual (KR919624) from China, there are 81 variations and 58 base deletion between the two sequences. The phylogenetic analysis indicated our sequence separated clearly from Eurasian lynx individuals in the previous publications. These results could provide more molecular information for the conservation of Eurasian lynx genetic resources.

Characteristic of complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic status of a muskrat, Ondatra zibethicus (Rodentia: Cricetidae) in South Korea.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Muskrat, Ondatra zibethicus (Rodentia: Cricetidae) in Korea was sequenced for the first time using the next-generation sequencing method to understand its evolutionary relationship and to be helpful to establish a management plan. This mitogenome was 16,350 base pairs in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. Its overall A, C, G, and T contents were 32.0%, 26.9%, 12.6%, and 28.5%, respectively. A + T content (63.7%) was higher than G + C content (36.3%). We made the phylogenetic tree of muskrat and other 12 species of order Rodentia distributed in Korea.

Phylogenetic relationship and characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Milionia basalis (Lepidoptera: Geometridae).

Project description:Larvae of the geometrid moth Milionia basalis feed exclusively on the podocarp tree, Podocarpus macrophyllus. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of M. basalis. This mitogenome was 15,901 bp long and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNA unit genes (rRNAs). The whole mitogenome exhibited heavy AT nucleotide bias (82.2%). Gene order was conserved and identical to most other previously sequenced Geometridae. Most PCGs of M. basalis had the conventional start codons ATN, with the exception of nad1 (TTG) and cox1 (CGA). Except for four genes (cox1, cox2, nad5, and nad4) end with the incomplete stop codon T--, all other PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA. Phylogenetic analysis showed that M. basalis got together with Apocheima cinerarius, Jankowskia athlete, and four Biston species (B. panterinaria, B. perclara, B. suppressaria, and B. thibetaria).

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic relationship of Pomatorhinus ruficollis (Passeriformes, Timaliinae).

Project description:In our study, we first report complete mitogenome for P. ruficollis and obtain basic genetic information. The genome of P. ruficollis is 17 009 bp which contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and two control regions. Overall bases composition of the complete mitochondrial genome is 29.70%A, 14.47%G, 23.31% T, 32.52%C. Twelve PCGs and 14 tRNA genes are distributed on the H-strand, ND6 and eight tRNA genes are encoded on the L-strand.

Phylogenetic relationship and characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Mylabris calida (Coleoptera:Meloidae).

Project description:Beetle genus Mylabris (Meloidae) was described by Fabricius (1775) and had been well known due to its relevance to traditional medicine (e.g., cantharidin production). Here, we sequenced and annotated the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Mylabris calida, one of species within Mylabris. This mitogenome was 15,149 bp long and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs) and two ribosomal RNA unit genes (rRNAs). All 13 PCGs were initiated by the ATN (ATG, ATT and ATA) codon. All PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA or TAG except for cox1, cox2, nad5 and nad4 which end with the incomplete codon T-. Phylogenetic analysis showed that M. calida got together with the same genus species Mylabris sp., M. aulica and three Hycleus species (H. cichorii, H. phaleratus and H. marcipoli), indicating Mylabris has a closer relationship with Hycleus than other genera within Meloidae.
