The complete mitochondrial genome of loliginid squid (Uroteuthis chinensis) from Minnan-Taiwan bank fishing ground.

ABSTRACT: The squid Uroteuthis chinensis is commercially important fishery species in many coastal regions of Asia. In this study, we described the complete mitochondrial genome of U. chinensis. The genome is 17,353 bp in length, encoding the standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, with circular organization. The overall base composition of the whole mitochondrial genome was A (39.56%), T (31.71%), G (9.05%) and C (19.68%) with an AT bias of 71.27%. The longest protein-coding genes of these species was ND5, whereas the shortest ATP8.

Project description:In this study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Loligo chinensis. The genome was 17,353 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and 3 main non-coding regions. The overall base composition of L. chinensis is A 38.62%, C 19.40%, T32.37% and G 9.61%, with a highly A + T bias of 70.99%. All of the three control regions (CR) contain termination-associated sequences and conserved sequence blocks. Here, we describe a phylogenetic analysis of 11 species Cephalopoda based on the complete mitochondrial genome; the result showed that the Loligo edulis is most closely related to L. chinensis. This mitogenome sequence data would play an important role in the investigation of phylogenetic relationship, taxonomic resolution and phylogeography of the Cephalopoda.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mactra chinensis (Bivalvia: Macridae).

Project description:The structure and composition of the mitogenome of a bivalve mollusk, denoted as Mactra sp. (MT780813), has been obtained. The genome has a variable organization: it includes 12 protein-coding genes, 28 tRNAs, and two rRNA genes. Its content is sufficiently different from that of nearest specimen, accessed from GenBank, supposedly belonging to the other gender. All genes are encoded on the "+"-strand. All protein-coding genes are initiated with ATG codon. Analysis confirms the close topological position of the GenBank Mactra chinensis (KJ754823) and our M. sp. specimen on gene tree. Above data suggesting female- vs. male-type mitogenomes or cryptic species presence.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the oceanic squid: Chiroteuthis picteti (Oegopsida, Chiroteuthidae).

Project description:The mitogenome sequence of Chiroteuthis picteti Joubin, 1894 (Oegopsida, Chiroteuthidae), a species of Oceanic squid, was first determined in the genus Chiroteuthis as well as in the family Chiroteuthidae. The circular genome of C. picteti is 20,851bp in size, has six duplicated genes (cox1, cox2, cox3, atp6, atp8, and tRNAAsp). The mitogenome of C. picteti has high A + T content (71.6%) similar to other Oegopsid (A 38.2%; C 18.3%; G 10.1%; T 33.4%). The mitogenome of C. picteti, the first reported of its genus, will be useful for inferring the phylogenetic relationships among the members of Chiroteuthidae, within the Oegopsids.

Project description:Chinese magnolia vine (Schisandra chinensis) is an economically important oriental medicinal plant that belongs to the Schisandraceae family. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of S. chinensis was 946,141 bp in length. A total of 45 genes was annotated, including 30 protein-coding genes, 12 tRNA genes, and 3 rRNA genes. A phylogenetic tree based on the mitochondrial genome demonstrated that S. chinensis was most closely related to Schisandra sphenanthera of the Schisandraceae family.

A complete mitochondrial DNA genome of whitefly species (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) from Litchi chinensis.

Project description:A novel complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of whitefly species, collected from Litchi chinensis at Fujian province of China (hereafter whitefly_Litchi chinensis _China) (GenBank accession number: MH999477), was described in this study. The mitogenome of whitefly_Litchi chinensis _China is 15,360 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 21 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs and a non-coding AT-rich region (D-loop). The arrangement of mitochondrial genes of whitefly_Litchi chinensis_China are identical with Aleurochiton aceris, but remarkably different from the mitogenomes of the other whitefly genus. Most protein-coding genes (PCGs) start with ATN, except for nad2, cox2 and atp6 genes starting with TTG, GTG, and TTG, respectively; 10 of the 13 PCGs use the typical stop codon TAN, whereas cox1, and cox2 stop with a single T. Phylogenetic analyses based on 13 PCGs support the close relationship of the sample with Aleurochiton aceris, which would provide us further insights on the taxonomy and phylogeny of Aleyrodidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Luehdorfia chinensis Leech (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) from China.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Luehdorfia chinensis that is endemic to China is determined. The circular genome is 15 550 bp in length and comprises 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs, two rRNA gene and a control region. Gene order is identical to that of the putative ancestral arrangement of insects. The nucleotide composition of heavy strand is A (40.3%), C (11.2%), T (41.1%) and G (7.3%). All PCGs start with a typical ATN codon except for the gene COI that uses AAC as the start codon. Bayesian analyses support the monophyly of genus Papilio and the sister relationship of Luehdorfia chinensis and L. taibai.

The mitochondrial genome of C. japonica is 15,759 bp in size. The genome includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). The overall GC content of the mitogenome is 32.0%. The results showed that C. japonica was most related to Chrysochroa fulgidissima, Trachys variolaris, and Agrilus mali. The full mitochondrial genome of C. japonica is now available, allowing researchers to better understand the species' genetic evolution and regulatory strategies.

The first complete mitochondrial genome of Mitridae from Mitra chinensis (Neogastropoda: Volutoidea).

Project description:Miters including Mitra chinensis are important fishery resources in China. However, the phylogenetic and taxonomic studies in Mitridae have been limited. In this study, we report the first complete mitochondrial genome of M. chinensis. The mitogenome has 16,238 base pairs (66.9% A + T content) and is made up of a total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs, and two ribosomal RNAs), plus a putative control region. This study will provide useful molecular resources for addressing taxonomic and evolutionary issues in Neogastropoda.

Complete mitochondrial genome of a leaf-mining beetle, Agonita chinensis Weise (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

Project description:The complete circular mitochondrial genome of Agonita chinensis was 16,395 bp in length, which contained two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs) and one non-coding AT-rich region with the length of 2001 bp. All of the 22 tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure, with the exception of tRNASer (TCT). Twelve PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except that nad1 started with TTG. Only four PCGs used the typical stop codon 'TAA' and 'TGA', while nine PCGs terminated with incomplete stop codons (TA or T). Phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs of Chrysomelidae mitogenomes showed that A. chinensis was closely related to Cassida viridis.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the tea lace bug, Stephanitis chinensis (Hemiptera: Tingidae).

Project description:The tea lace bug, Stephanitis chinensis Drake (Hemiptera: Tingidae), is a pest which feeds on the undersides of tea leaves by piercing the epidermis and sucking the sap, and causes great harm to plant growth and tea production. We have obtained the whole mitochondrial genome of S. chinensis (GenBank accession No. MF498769). The entire mt genome is 16,667 bp in size with an A + T content of 78.41%. The tea lace bug mt genome encodes all 37 genes that are typically found in animal mt genomes, consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The gene order is consistent with other sequenced mt genome of lace bugs. The A + T-rich region of this genome is 2215 bp long with the A + T content of 82.58%, and located between the rrnS and trnI genes. Phylogenetic analysis performed using 13 PCGs with 14 heteropteran insects showed that S. chinensis clusters with other Tingidae species.
